To grok someone or something is to intimately and completely share the same reality or line of thinking with another physical or conceptual entity.[1] Author Robert A. Heinlein coined the term in his best-selling 1961 novel Stranger in a Strange Land. In the 1960s everyone who was a nerd read the book and frequently used the term grok in everyday speech.
A popular t-shirt and bumper sticker slogan, seen as early as 1967, was "I Grok Spock" (often showing the Star Trek character using the Vulcan salute).
