Sentinel fanfic template?
I see there are 597 pages in the Sentinel fanfic category. Do you want a customized fanfiction template?--æþel (talk) 22:55, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
- Is it a lot of work to administer? I have about 75 more to go. --MPH (talk) 23:00, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
- We'd have to switch the template on each page, so probably not worth the bother at this point. Are you planning a large scale fanfic page project for another fandom?--æþel (talk) 04:30, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
Image Categories
For years, I've tried to keep on top of putting categories on new images. I always felt as though we were doing pretty well when there were less than 50 of them in Uncategorized Files. But they've really gotten away from me. There are now over 650 there, and it feels overwhelming. It would be super if anyone felt like working on them. --MPH (talk) 21:10, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
Zine library
Hello! Got your message :D Really nice that you got in touch (I was thinking of contacting you and saying I was here, but then I thought it might be weird. Pleased that it's not). I don't know whether you're around, but I'll be in the library until 5pm and then probably in Iowa City until about 8pm. Updating Fanlore a bit at the moment (as you may have seen), but hoping to do a lot more when I get back to the UK :) At the moment, just looking at lots of things like this -> 8D Aralias (talk) 19:24, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- And here I was thinking it might be weird that I contacted you! And pleased that it's not... ;)
- I wish I was "around," but I'm actully about a five-hour drive from where you are right now. When I last made the trip, I was there two weeks, sleeping in a tent about 10 miles out of town, and making the trek to the library every day. It was a blissful time.
Pocahontas pages
Thanks for helping out with the Pocahontas pages! There's so much writing to do. ;-;
- You're welcome, User:Ncfwhitetigress. I'll do what I can. And thank you for your work. :) --MPH (talk) 22:13, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
I figured it out! =D --Ncfwhitetigress (talk) 15:29, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
- You're a quick study! It's kinda tricky to explain in words; I always flounder a bit.--MPH (talk) 15:38, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
Zine Cover
I hope it's all right with you. I've just taken your picture of the cover of Conquistador for our article in the FK Wiki. Credited to you on the upload, of course. --Greer Watson (talk) 02:05, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
Replacement Program?
Hey, I'm nosy: what's your 'Replacement Program' section of your user page about? Franzeska (talk) 07:14, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
- They are zine covers I added in 2009, right after I started editing on Fanlore, when I was even more clueless than I am now. They don't have a source/provenance. I would like to replace them with scans I can document as per where they came from. --MPH (talk) 11:25, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
MZB Additions
Hey, thanks for adding the stuff that's come out recently about MZB -- I felt like it should be there but hesitated to add it myself, because I didn't know how to tie it back in to what Fanlore's focus is. I'm going to make one minor edit (making Breen's victims gender-neutral, because even though people mostly talk about him as a predator of young boys, some of the most truly horrendous accusations were about him and young girls) but otherwise the discussion and link round-up looks great. --PhoenixFalls (talk) 00:31, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
- I've been thinking a lot about it, trying to decide how much should be on Fanlore. Including the links and comments means we need to make sure there is enough fan connection -- how these allegations tie into convention culture, BNFs, the tendency/desire to protect one's inner circle, the subject of separating the creator's behavior from her or his works, MZB's place in fannish culture, her contributions as a woman in traditionally male science fiction culture... Right now, I'm trying to locate more fan reaction, so if you know of any sources, it would be good to add them. --MPH (talk) 00:50, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
- I'll look around. Most of what I've seen is gut-reaction comments on the articles you already linked to talking about purging personal libraries of MZB works and the like, but I think there're a couple links not on your list about people who have been published in MZB-related anthologies and their thoughts on having made money that way which might fit nicely here, given that a lot of those anthologies are essentially sanctioned fanfic. (I just have to check that they're public posts, not friends-locked.) --PhoenixFalls (talk) 01:50, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
Samizdat Barrayar
I happened across this Vorkosigan Saga zine and made a stubby article on it -- I wondered, do you have any info? I've never heard of Vorkosigan zines but I'm guessing The Reluctant Famulus (from which it reprinted some content) was another one. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 04:54, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
- I've never heard of that zine! I think "The Reluctant Famulus" may be seen here, the dates line up. The Reluctant Famulus isn't a Vorkosigan zine, but a general science fiction zine. Do you think that's the zine from which the stories were reprinted? The dates seem to line up. --MPH (talk) 13:58, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, it looks like the right one. Interesting that a general sf zine of that date would publish fanfiction; I thought they were usually rather snooty about it. Thanks, Espresso Addict (talk) 14:46, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
missing cite on Johnlock page
You cited kanata here, but didn't include the url or any other citation info. Do you remember where you found kanata's post or comment?--æþel (talk) 14:33, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not good at riffling through history pages but tried to figure it out. Did I actually add it? The reason I ask is that's a form of a cite I've never used on Fanlore because I don't know how that shortened form works. Did I tweak or pull it from another place on the page? Also, as far as I know, I haven't made any edits of substance (opinion, meta) to Sherlock pages as I very purposely don't read what's out there. This doesn't solve the mystery, I know -- sorry! --MPH (talk) 14:46, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
Jabberwocky
Hullo. I've finished reading all the Jabberwocky fic, and so my attention has turned to the Fanlore pages... My instinct is that the page structure isn't right, so I wanted to a) run my idea by you and b) ask you to make the initial page-name changes, as I don't think I have that Power. I think.......
1. The page currently titled The Jabberwocky Universe should probably be entitled Jabberwocky, and should discuss most of what is discussed now. This should be about the stories, rather than the zines. So perhaps reviews should go on this page too (I also wonder whehter my reviews are appropriate, as they are long and very spoilery. Maybe just one review, and then a link to the rest...) Then there should be a section somewhere that says - these stories were published in several different zines (this info would be reiterated from the other info about the stories, but I think it's OK). The section about how it was published in different zines, should link to -
2. a page that is much like the current page called Jabberwocky, but... it should be renamed and the content should change. I suggest either: a) Name: Jabberwocky (Judith Proctor re-print). Content - JUST has the Judith Proctor zines on it (in which case we'd have to create a new page for the Mind Rape/Healer zine and the stand-alone Malodaar, which were both published by Janet Walker (presumably of Evil Twin Press). I would call this page something like 'Jabberwocky (Janet Walker printing)'. So that would be 3 Jabberwocky pages, not including the one that says 'you may be looking for' at the top of this page.
or:
b) ... my personal favourite option retitle the Jabberwocky page something like 'Jabberwocky Zines' and group all the Proctor ones together, and all the non-Proctor ones together. And I think also include the 'are you looking for this?' 7th Sector zine on this page too? Because it is entirely Jabberwocky.
What do you think? Thoughts would be great, and then re-naming also much appreciated :D Thanks. Aralias (talk) 20:53, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- I'm so happy you have some suggestions on how to make this all work, as I've been mightily confused by it all. I think there's a better way, too.
- How about a single page called Jabberwocky? It can start with the info on The Jabberwocky Universe (and then redirect it to "Jabberwocky") as that page explains a lot and is pretty basic. We can keep the list of the individual stories on that section. There can also be a section on the different zine reprints. Then, perhaps we can make some subpages? Each of those stories could be its own page, Jabberwocky/Link-up, Jabberwocky/The Forma, etc. That would give each story its due space. OR, we could create a separate page for each story without titling it that way: example: Link-up and then make sure there's a link on that page to Jabberwocky. I'm leaning towards this last option, as it keeps things organized and readable, and also more in line with other stories in other series in other fandoms.
- That would all address the issue of your long reviews (I love, love those, and think they are very appropriate) as they'd be on their own pages. We can put a blurb about spoilers at the beginning of each if you feel uncomfortable about the amount of info you give, and of course, make sure there are robust links back to your journal pages. I like that idea more than abridging them. ~ MPH
- Hello - back, after a long time, because I didn't get a notification.... so clearly I need to remember to come back :) I think your individual stories idea would work, for sure. I like the idea that they would all have the word 'Jabberwocky' in the title, but am happy for it not to happen. Do you think we should get rid of the Jabberwocky Universe page entirely (with all its content shifted to Jabberwocky?) Also - is there such a thing as a subpage, or are you just suggesting a series of pages that would link off the main one? Also - is it OK not to use the zine template given that we'll be talking about a fic universe? Can we just put the page in the category 'Blake's 7 gen zines' even though it is technically not a page just on zines, but in fact on the fic... Aralias (talk) 20:52, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
- Okay. So, let's make a "Jabberwocky" page. We'll put all of the info from the "Jabberwocky Universe" page on it, and then delete the universe page. On the Jabberwocky page there can be a section about the zine reprints. Aralias, you're going to have to take a major role in sorting the zine section out, as they perplex me mightily.
- I've been thinking about the subpages/separate pages thing, and while subpages would work, it would be more in line with other fiction in series and universes to simply make a separate page for each story and then on those pages, have a clear link to "Jabberwocky."
Star Trek The Need For Stars
I am missing something here. I don't think I am looking for the name of the actual story, but the name of a zine? ThanksBobdog54 (talk) 01:32, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
- The story The Need for Stars is in First Time #36, a review of the story is in Come Together #12. That's what I know. --MPH (talk) 01:52, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
Article Title Suggestions?
I want to start a page for people (fans, journalists...) deliberately asking about fanworks/showing fanworks to the actors and other TPTB. Examples: making the actors read fanfic out-loud, showing them fanart in public and observing their reactions, asking actors in front of an audience about slash, sending/giving actors/TPTB fanworks privately, putting actors/TPTB into positions where they are forced to make a statement about fanworks...
What should this page be called? --MPH (talk) 14:07, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
- Fourth Wall Violations? Breaking the Fourth Wall On Purpose? It could go on the Fourth Wall (glossary term) page for now.--æþel (talk) 03:16, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
- I'd like to change TPTB's Involvement and Interference to TPTB's Involvement with Fandom. And on that page, which needs quite a bit of revision, I'd want to make links to a new page Violating the Fourth Wall, as well as other pages: Fourth Wall, Fan Service, and more (ideas?). --MPH (talk) 13:18, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
Those pesky brackets
Just wanted to say thank you for the help with the Enzo page. I have no idea how I missed those pesky brackets, I spent good 10 minutes trying to figure out where I went wrong with ctrl+c/ctrl+v of the template... <3 --Soyalex (talk) 15:08, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
