Let's address fan culture, also known as the SMPLive Serious Stream, is a 2019 Twitch stream from SMPLive creator CallMeCarson.

In it, Carson addresses numerous concerns he has with stan culture and the SMPLive fandom. Some of these include the then-popular fanfiction SMPRonpa, as well as a copypasta tweet that had been circulating about a fan allegedly stealing cscoop's water bottle at TwitchCon San Diego 2019.

The stream directly led to the creation of the Tumblr blog smp-boundaries, which was dedicated to documenting the "boundaries" of SMPLive creators.

Memetic Mutation

The serious stream has become a meme in the wider MCYT fandom, with it constantly being referenced in the form of fans saying that creators are going to have to do their own "serious stream".

In particular, the starting soon screen for the stream features a message that has become a copypasta mocked by fans even who weren't part of the SMPLive fandom:

this is gonna be a serious stream addressing some bullshit fan culture that has creeped my friends and I out. If you're coming here for laughs I'm sorry but occasionally I have to address more serious topics. The water bottle "controversy" also became a major meme in MCYT fandom, especially since it wasn't real and was instead based on a Kpop copypasta.
