c!Quackity's note for Slimecicle

Quackcicle is the m/m pairing of Quackity and Slimecicle in the Dream SMP and QSMP fandoms. It is very rarely seen in RPF works. The gen variant of this pairing is called DapDuo and is more common.

Canon

Dream SMP

Quackity first finds Slimecicle hiding in a restaurant that he's currently trying to blow up, and holds him hostage to try to gain information from him. Slimecicle, being a several thousand year-old slime, has seen practically everything on the SMP, which Quackity realizes he can potentially use to his advantage.

Slimecicle gives him a little kiss, which Quackity reacts to with surprise.

The two become close friends during the Las Nevadas arc, and Quackity begins to train Slimecicle as the heir to Las Nevadas. In the Lessons stream their relationship develops, with Quackity telling Slimecicle about his estranged fiancés, before admitting to him that he thinks Slime is the person he cares about most on the server.

Slimecicle seemingly dies in Quackity's arms after Purpled shoves him into lava, and Quackity is shown to be extremely distressed by this. He takes the melted slime back with him and spends weeks trying to find a way to bring him back. He even gives him a name, Charlie.

During this time, Slime manages to leave a note for him in a book that says "legacy".

In the finale stream of Las Nevadas, we learn that Quackity has set up a grave for Slimecicle, and was planning on giving him the key to Las Nevadas in a little box.

Purpled and Punz attempt to manipulate Slimecicle into hating Quackity, with Purpled commenting that Slimecicle is like a son to Quackity - a belief that is rooted in his attempt to strip Slime's agency and turn him into a weapon to use against Quackity, and isn't supported by anything either party have said themselves.

Their plan doesn't work, but Slimecicle grows to realize that Quackity had been hurting him anyways, and confronts him on his own volition, telling Quackity that he ruined both of them before pushing him off the edge of the needle, taking Quackity's second canon life.

Because Quackity from Las Nevadas, we have one thing in common. Through everything we've been through. The same human ruined our lives. Because you are not a good person.

c!Slimecicle

Quackity has said that his character "found solace in Slimecicle" and that the two would have reconciled if another Las Nevadas stream had been produced.

QSMP

Quackcicle's relationship in QSMP is complicated - they are friends, however, have a lot of conflict and interpersonal issues going on. Additionally, while still a fanon pairing in that they haven't officially gotten together, their dynamic is a lot more explicitly romantically charged in QSMP's canon than in Dream SMP.

Quackity's child, Tilin, encourages the two to get together by placing signs asking things like if Quackity wants Slimecicle as his boyfriend, and eventually manages to get the two on what is basically a date before leaving them alone. Slimecicle tries to flirt with Quackity, and the two get drinks together. The two have a messy conversation where Slimecicle rants about the grief he feels regarding the death of his daughter, JuanaFlippa, and confesses that he plans to try to kill all the eggs.

Quackity is one of Slimecicle's lawyers in his court case against ElMariana, and is very dedicated to defending him.

Slimecicle later accidentally kills Tilin, causing him to exile himself out of shame. After attending the funeral for the deceased eggs, he meets Quackity again, who is very frustrated and eggs him on to fight him, which Slimecicle doesn't want to do. The two fight, and Slime wants Quackity to win, yet somehow manages to defeat him easily without trying. This upsets him when he overhears that Quackity plans to leave forever if he loses the rematch. They fight again, and this time, Slimecicle makes absolutely sure to let Quackity win.

At the Las Casualonas Nightclub, when Quackity is being interrogated and his plan to kill the eggs is learned about, Slimecicle loudly says that they should make Quackity trial by stripping. Afterwards, still dressed in his playboy bunny costume, Slimecicle goes to comfort Quackity at his home, but becomes upset when he sees that Quackity is carrying around a picture of his wife/husband ElMariana.

When the Brazilian players join the server, Quackity implies that he, Slimecicle and ElMariana should take care of Tallulah, Wilbur's daughter, together while Wilbur is on tour. They also consider living together, though nothing comes of this.

At Cellbit and Roier's wedding, the two flirt while drinking again, with Slimecicle asking Quackity to talk somewhere more private. The two later blow up the wedding with TNT.

Fandom

Quackcicle has 465 works on Archive of Our Own as of July 2023, and it is the fourth most common pairing for Quackity after Karlnapity (and its component ships HonQ and Quacknap), Quackbur and Schlackity. It is overwhelmingly a FPF ship rather than RPF, as 304 of 465 works are tagged Dream SMP - and not all the ones that aren't are RPF, as prior to SMP fandom tags being split it was common practice to tag SMP works as Video Blogging RPF and Minecraft.

It is much more commonly shipped on Tumblr than on Twitter.

Controversies

Another common interpretation in the Dream SMP fandom is that Slimecicle is like Quackity's son figure. This is not supported by canon besides Quackity teaching him things and Purpled saying it as an outsider's view of the two's relationship.

Because of this, some fans are very against shipping them romantically.

I saw this post that was like we shouldn’t only analyze c!Quackity by his romantic relationships. He’s his own person outside of his relationships. And I was like so true go off king. And the very next fucking sentence was: this fandom even sexualizes the father/son relationships he has like him and c!slime

On the other hand, many fans, particularly autistic fans, say that father/son DapDuo feels infantilizing towards c!Slimecicle, who they view as an autistic-coded adult character. Fans of the pairing also argue that Purpled and Punz do not understand Quackity and Slimecicle's relationship, and point out that they are trying to manipulate Slimecicle in that scene.

Listen, you can say I'm grasping at straws all you want, but I feel like it's basically confirmed in canon that c!Purpled does not understand Quackity and Slime's relationship at all, and he's repeatedly underestimated Slime as his own independent person. He genuinely thought for a time that the only reason Quackity cared about Slime was because he could easily manipulate him and saw him as the perfect puppet. And Purpled has manipulated Slime twice now because he underestimated his intelligence and pretty much saw him as a naive child.

Another group of fans disagrees that father/son dynamics are infantilizing, but still think that romantic Quackcicle is okay as well.

People realize you can have a father figure and be an adult yourself right? Like, c!Slime and c!Quackity can be interpreted to a close father/son kind of dynamic not because Slime is a child, but because Quackity mentored him.

Like, be wary of Q raising Slime au’s that get weird still, but the concept of having a father figure is not inherently infantilizing.

On that note, Quackcicle is valid, and so is Quackity as Slime’s dad/mentor.
