Hawaii Five-0 Ohana Favorite Awards is a 2012 Hawaii Five-0 fanfiction award. Only stories published before January 31, 2012 were eligible. A second round for stories posted between February 1, 2012 and January 31, 2013 was planned but in the end never happened.

My favorite story doesn’t seem to fit in any of the categories you have listed. Does that mean it isn’t eligible? No, that’s not what it means at all! You are welcome to nominate any story that does not fit into a tidy category. The moderators will discuss all “other” nominations to determine if there are enough to make a new category. We will do our very best to list every eligible story that is nominated.

My favorite story is on my friend’s locked LiveJournal. Can I still nominate it?

If it is not publicly accessible, it is not eligible. Please contact the author and ask that they post it on a public site – Archive of Our Own, Fanfiction.net, etc., or that they unlock their post.

I was nominated but I’m not comfortable being a part of the Awards process. Are you going to list my story?

Every author will be contacted to request permission to post their nominated story. If you don’t want your story to be listed as a nominee, we will respect your wishes. If you receive an email from the Mods, please respond as soon as possible letting us know whether or not you wish to have your story included. “Yes” and “No” responses are greatly appreciated for our sanity.

My favorite fanwork of all time is a video. Can I nominate it?

Not yet. We want to have graphic/video categories but haven’t quite figured out what the rules for those categories should be. If you have some suggestions, please let us know!

Can I nominate myself?

No. Self-nominations are not accepted. We are looking for readers to tell us about their favorite stories. Even if your favorite story is one you wrote, please do not submit it.

Can I vote for my story?

Sure. If your story is your favorite, vote for it.

I don’t have a LiveJournal account. Does that mean I can’t nominate or vote?

Unfortunately, you must have a LiveJournal account to make nominations and to vote. (A Dreamwidth account will also work.) We are not accepting Anonymous nominations or votes. Since LiveJournal accounts are free, please sign up for one so you can participate.

The fic I want to submit is actually a series of one-liners/short drabbles/vignettes. Does it still count as one fic or do they each have to be nominated separately?

It still counts. As long as it is otherwise eligible, it can be nominated in whichever category or categories best match its over all theme.

Can I nominate a drabble for a category other than 'Best Drabble'? Certainly. The nominations for “Best Drabble” must be exactly 100 words. If you want to nominate a story of 130 words, for instance, it can be nominated in any category or categories for which it's eligible. You can also nominate drabbles of exactly 100 words for any other category for which it is eligible.

My favorite story was just published yesterday. Can I nominate it? All nominations must have been published before January 31, 2012 or ON 1/31/12. If it was published for the first time in February 2012, it is not eligible for these awards.

My favorite story was published on AO3 on December 1, 2011. But it was put on LiveJournal on February 3, 2012. Can I nominate it?

Yes. Please link to the AO3 story so that it will be eligible for these awards. You can include the link to LiveJournal as well but make sure you give us the link to the story that was published prior to the 1/31/12 deadline.

My favorite story could be “angst” and “first time” and “AU”. Can I nominate it for all three?

Yes you may. You’ll need to complete 3 nomination submissions. They can all be on the same comment/email but for the sake of the sanity of the mods, please submit 3 nominations.

My favorite story is Wo Fat/Adam Noshimuri. Can I still nominate it?

Yes. It will go in the other/other (or rare pair) category. If we get 3 or more Wo Fat/Adam stories (for instance), it will become its own category.

My favorite story is Steve and Danny friendship. Will it compete against the Steve/Danny stories?

No. There will be a category for Steve and Danny friendship. There will be another category for Steve/Danny stories. This holds true for all other pairings.

I’m not sure I understand how the categories work. Can you explain it to me?

Sure. We are requesting that you “choose one from column A and one from column B.” If Steve and Danny (friendship not slash) are the main focus of the story, and the story is a Crossover with Stargate Atlantis, then your nomination would look like this:

I don't know or can't find an email address for a writer I want to nominate. Does that mean I can't nominate them? Not at all. Send all the information you have on the story. We'll track down the author if at all possible. If we can't find a way to contact her/him, the story won't be eligible. But we won't be easily deterred!

I want to nominate 4 really cool stories. Do I have post 4 comments or send 4 separate emails? No, that's not necessary. Just copy, paste, and complete the nomination template 4 times. We need 4 nominations but they can all be contained in one post (email or LJ comment). What if it’s a cool story about the entire team?

Then you would nominate it for the Favorite Team-centric Award.

Why are the nomination comments screened?

We don’t want to risk the Awards becoming a ship-war. Also, we are checking with all nominees to see if they agree to be listed. If the nomination comments are not screened, it would render requesting premission moot.
