Why we love it: This story won't be for everyone (PLEASE read the warnings at the head of the first chapter before deciding to read) but we love stories that explore the strength of the human spirit, that show just how resilient we can be in the face of devastating tragedy. It's a cliche, but life does eventually go on, even though it can be a long and difficult process. If you enjoy this story, Alphabet and Numerology are some related stories in the same verse.[3]
And, if you want to sob your heart out for hours on end, tears falling like a treacherous waterfall, then go ahead and read Sock Monkey, also by Cattraine. I particularly enjoy torturing myself with this one, then immediately regret it, but not enough to stop me from re-reading it like five times in the last year or so lol. (Definitely read the tags though; there’s some heavy stuff in this one, beebee.)[4]PLEASE?! Any and all the McDanno fics! I want to delve into the deep end :D *makes grabby hands* I will take any and all recommendations. ^^
This fic broke me into tiny little pieces; it's one of the saddest fics in H50 fandom I've read so far. It still has the power to bring tears to my eyes even reading it half a year later. Where Cattraine takes Danny and his team in this is mind-boggling and deeply emotional. Her exploration of how far a man can be broken and still be brought back towards healing with the love his family will leave your heart on the floor and a hand to your mouth in wonder. Don't forget the tissues as we see a Danny without his monkey but with his beloved aand ohana.[5]
What on earth made me re-read this fic when it’s so heartbreaking? The first part is always hard to get through. But I guess that if you need a good cry, and then to go on a healing journey, this is the fic for you. I feel like I need to remind everyone to READ THE TAGS for this one though. This is also part 1 of 5 in the Sock Monkey Universe. The other parts are “Timestamps, Outtakes, and scenes from ‘Sock Monkey’“ and they add so much to the story. And believe me, after reading the first part you’re gonna want to read them all.[6]
