Generation II Pokémon games include Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver, and later Pokémon Crystal. This generation was also remade during Generation IV as Heart Gold and Soul Silver in 2009.

The most popular pairing (coupling in Japanese) this generation both in Japanese and English-speaking PKMN fandom is Ethan/Silver (HunterShipping). Other popular pairings, as seen on Archive of Our Own, are Kris/Silver (RedemptionShipping), Lyra/Silver (SoulSilverShipping), Eusine/Morty (SacredShipping), Falkner/Morty (HonorShipping), and familial Lance & Silver. Gold & Kris & Silver & Lyra is also popular and forms the popular Johto Trio.[1] Famous Pokémon such as Marill, Pichu and Lugia were also introduced.
