Lance & Silver is a common gen (combi in Japanese) relationship in the Pokémon fandom. It pairs Lance (Wataru) and Silver (Silver) from Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal. Lance is the Pokémon champion while Silver is the rival to the playable character, which may be Ethan, Kris or Lyra.
The relationship is similar to that of a found family, with Lance "taking" Silver in as like a son or a mentor figure. Silver's actual father, Giovanni, leader of the villainous Team Rocket, canonically abandoned him prior to the events of the games. Lance & Silver became popular particularly in the late 2010s, 10 years after GSC were initially released. It is also mostly popular in the western side of the fandom.
Most Lance & Silver fanworks focus on their appearances in the Pokémon game series. They've also appeared in the Pokémon Special manga.
Lance/Silver is relatively less popular.
