Alara Rogers is an active and influential member of several fandoms over the years, including Star Trek and X-Men, with a particular focus on the characters of Q and Magneto. She was the Trekiverse archivist (1995–1998) as well as contributing a great deal of time to the X-Men fandom. She also served on the alt.startrek.creative.all-ages Appeals board.
As well as writing her own fanfiction, Alara provided both feedback on others' stories and opinions on a number fandom-related topics, including slash, Mary-Sues and women in fandom. She is known as a straight-shooter - she may not always couch things in delicate terms, but she usually has a point to what she is saying, and a wealth of experience in writing and fandom to share.
Her personal archive Alara.net holds an extensive library of fanfiction and meta, as well as links to other archives of note. Per her Fanfiction.net and AO3 accounts, she is still posting new fanfic.
Notable Works
- Only Human (link), a lengthy, mostly AU Star Trek: The Next Generation series in which Q never regained his powers after the episode "Deja Q".
- A Kiss Before the War (Star Trek: TNG) Humanity has passed all of the necessary tests and Continuum supervision is no longer required. Picard and Q realize that they will miss each other.
- InseQurity (Star Trek: TNG) - co-written with Mercutio
- Redeem the Blood (Farscape)
- The Truth and Nothing But the Truth (Star Trek: TNG)
- Only Human (Star Trek: TNG story)
- Familiar Strangers (Star Trek: TNG) - While negotiating a trade alliance on a barbarous planet, Jean-Luc Picard is provided with a beautiful political prisoner as a sex toy. He reluctantly agrees to spend the night with her, but she's not what she appears...
- The Melting Man (Farscape)
- Identity Crisis (Farscape story)
- Do It Again Series (Star Trek: TNG)
- The Body Snatcher - (X-Men) Rated adult for rape, violence, and mature themes. One of my most ambitious and disturbing works, in which I respond to facile comic book treatment of torture, imprisonment and rape by taking the strongest character I write and showing that the strength to endure such horrors doesn't come from being proud and unbending, but from being willing to do what it takes to survive. Also, like a lot of my work, deals with gender issues by putting a man in female form and making him and everyone else deal with it.[1]
- Habits (X-Men) - Alone in the X-Mansion, Kitty faces off against Magneto over the dread danger of... rye bread.
- Night Before a Funeral (New Mutants) - In another world, Doug Ramsey didn't die to save Rahne, and now he must deal with it.
