Chez Gwyn: La Maison Fanfic was the fanfic and essays site of Gwyneth Rhys. It included rants and background information for her fanfic as well as links to other sites and fanfic recommendations.

The Magnificent Seven

main page

Pilgrim Heart. During a range war, Vin and Chris discover what it means to belong—both to a place, and to one another. Novella-length and in one part.

The X-Files

The Book of the Dead. I really don't know how to classify this other than to say it's experimental. The five major characters, not really doing anything. All I can say is, read the warning at the top of it and see if you want to proceed.

x = y. A gen Mulder/Scully story, about the equations and geometry of the heart.

Twilight. Skinner's past and future collide, bringing him face to face not just with guilt and grief, but with a world where second chances are possible.

Let Go, I'll Catch You. Another one of those spare vignettes I seem to keep coming up with lately, without having any idea what they're about or how to describe them.

Not My Cross to Bear. Gen, Skinner/Scully. Not really a story so much as a vignette. Just doodling, I guess.

That's What Stars Are For. Skinner's vacation takes an X-Filian turn when he must call Mulder in to assist on an oddball case, but the situation does bring with it some perks. Sappily romantic; may cause tooth decay.

Wish You Were Here. When plans for a weekend go awry, Mulder and Skinner find themselves stuck with each other. Very short and very silly.

Broken-Hearted Savior. Gen, Skinner/Scully. Closing a case brings Skinner and Scully together, forcing them to face their true feelings and confront the obstacles, both personal and professional, they've created for themselves. Another novella, in two parts:

Part 1: Crossroads | Part 2: The Damage Done

Something Like Grace. Same universe as Strange Weather, very different world. Mulder tries to put all the recent traumatic events of his life into perspective, and to find his place in Skinner's life—while Skinner has no idea how to fit Mulder into his own, or whether he should. More repressive guyhood and inarticulate longing; novella-length and in one part.

Surrender Dorothy. An electronic epistolary story. Utter fluff and nonsense.

Strange Weather. Investigating a series of events in Baltimore, Mulder is driven closer to Skinner, who rebuffs him at every advance. Repressive guyhood, misery, inarticulate longing, and the confines of their jobs keep them going back and forth. This story is novella-length and in one part.

Immergence. A visit to confer with Mulder before a hearing on the death of John Lee Roche leads to more than Skinner planned. Originally published in the zine Homosapien 5, 1997, still available (contact through e-mail) from the editor, Julie "Julien" Bozza

The Professionals

Careful What You Wish For. A novella in two parts. Doyle wants Bodie and he gets him... but that's where the trouble begins. Now he stands to lose everything he cares about, including Bodie and CI5. (First published by Deathless Pros Press, 1995.) Includes both: Part I: Like a Thief to Silver & Part II: Worthless Currency

Be My Valentine. Bodie hates holidays, and everyone knows it. So who's sending him gifts of love? A comic confection, sweeter than my usual. First published in the zine Nudge Nudge, Wink Wink 4; Manacles Press.

Fit To Be Tied. Can the lads survive hours of togetherness—too much togetherness? A comic look at what happens when Bodie and Doyle get too close. (First published by Deathless Pros Press, Close Quarters, 1996.)

These Things Do Not Remember You. Doyle is barely hanging on after Bodie's death, and putting himself in danger in the line of duty. Is he suicidal, as his colleagues think, or simply unable to function without Bodie, his other half? This is a death story. (First published 1997, Guilty Pleasures by the Media Cannibals.)

Aftermath is a novel set against the backdrop of a bombing case, where Bodie and Doyle learn about chance, choices and life-changing revelations. I'd still like to wish it into the cornfield, but the masses have spoken, so here it is! (First published: Deathless Pros Press, 1995.) I wrote this long before I had access to Brit-checkers; I apologize in advance for flagrant Americanisms.

Links

There are two pages available with links to Gwyneth Rhys's old sites, one can be accessed here at members.aa.net/ and the other here at drizzle.com/ or here at drizzle.com/ (alternative page).

My main links page doesn't offer a lot of recs, but there are a few interesting Places and People here. Also on my site:

Blackbird has a sweet little Mulder/Skinner story, called Better Homes & Gardens, that examines the price and reward of opening oneself up to love.

Kenna McGuire's lovely Sports Night slash story, Coup de Foudre, is a brief look at the lightning-fast realizations that can change a life.

Keiko Kirin has a page here featuring many of her wonderful stories and other information. You'll find her M/K stories, Velvet Goldmine, and Highlander, amongst others.

A collection of links. Updated 1/27/01

I'm not much of a web surfer, and don't read a lot of fanfic. So these links are more a reflection of my tastes in general, writers who I consistently admire, my friends (!), and just general stuff I think is fun.

Fanfic sites

I've hosted a number of Keiko Kirin's wonderful stories on my site for some time, and now she's got a sort of mirror site with much of the same stuff, as well as her newer Stargate SG-1 fiction, and some of her older stories in fandoms such as Law & Order and Wiseguy. She's a great writer and a great person, so read her stuff, and drop her line, so she'll keep writing!

Olivia is the best thing to happen to Mulder/Skinner fiction since... sliced bread! But seriously folks... Her story, The Hitchhiker, was one of the first adult, intelligent pictures of both Mulder and Skinner I'd seen in ages, plus it had a real X-File in it. Her wonderful stories are now being hosted at the link above, go read -- you won't be disappointed.

CazQ is a lovely writer who really knows how to use language. Her story The Furious Winter, about a post-colonization Mulder and Scully, was my favorite of 1999.

I miss Anna, aka A. Leigh-Anne Childe, in X-Files fandom, but what can you do when they go astray? <g> However, the Sentinel fans are so lucky to have her wonderful way with words and characterization. She now has her own site with her stories and other amusing things.

Vehemently's page offers some odd pairings, but damn, she can write. Vacillation is a vignette about the indecision and regret in Skinner's life, which I liked very much. A M/Sc piece at her home page is also very good.

Oblique Publications, the longtime publisher of M. Fae Glasgow's stories, now have many of their zines up in PDF format. You'll find XF, Pros, Blake's 7, Due South, and others. It's also an adorable site, using the London Underground typeface and iconography.

KC has an excellent page that includes an archive and links to some of the best of the Pros "circuit" library. There's a substantial amount there now, and she is in the process of adding more. This is some of the classic Pros fanfic. Check it out!

Ethan Nelson's frequently hilarious and always delightful M/Sk stories, and more stories in Due South and Sentinel, can be found at her own site now.

Rachael Sabotini writes wonderful, emotional Highlander and Sentinel stories, and also features some of her older Pros stories and Phantom Menace. She offers some great links, too, on her links page.

Merry Lynne writes mostly Highlander and Sentinel, and she does a great job, especially in her characterization. Check out her page, especially her fab HL stories Resolution, and Intervention.

I admit I don't get people for whom Skinner and Krycek are interchangeable in fic, but when I read her M/Sk stories, I like JiM's work very much. Do check out Head Games and Wakened by Silence.

I've been all over the board about Wombat's fiction (the Britishisms especially bug me, when they're easily remedied), but I loved September (which seems to be at a different site). I had major problems with one of the plot points -- it's utterly unbelievable, but otherwise it's gorgeous. I also like Dear Mr. Mulder and other humor stories at her home page.

And of course there's the Mulder Skinner Slash Society site, with fiction archives, photos, and other cool stuff. I'm especially fond of the sublime Gloria Lancaster's excellent Missing in Action.

I can't imagine there isn't anyone checking my links who doesn't know torch's page. She writes the style of story I like the most -- adult, mature, evocative. My favorites are Ghosts and Witness Tree, and also her Characterization musings in the Buttons section. And her recs page is wonderful.

Sandy, the fannish butterfly, is a fellow Media Cannibal (see below) who has a page with her musings, rants & raves, and a couple stories (especially check out her Skinner piece). Her recs page is well known and frequently updated if you're cruising for new fan fiction.

General fannish sites

Quite possibly the single best fan-run web site I've ever seen, LJC's La Femme Nikita page is astounding -- comprehensive, well-written, detailed, fun, graphic-loaded without being slow, and offers tons of fannish extras. Even if you're not an LFN fan, it's a great look at how a fan site can be run.

Melina has written a wonderful essay about the similarities between Duncan and Nikita, Methos and Michael, and the Campbell archetypes they represent. If you're a fan of either show, and at least know a tiny bit about the other, you can easily enjoy it, and if you've watched both, you'll love it.

Two shows I'm currently mad about are La Femme Nikita and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. One thing I love about both is the music they use. Two great pages provide listings of the music used in each episode, and how to get it. Try the Buffy Music Website and the Sounds of LFN.

I am insane for the wicked and wonderful, duplicitous and divine Michael (Roy Dupuis) of La Femme Nikita. Nice sites with lots of pictures are the Roy Dupuis home page and Michael's Obeyance Pool, and Les Hombres de Michel.

I worship Vince Gilligan, who has written most of my favorite episodes of the X-Files. Apparently I'm not alone, because there's now a web page devoted to him. Check out the Vince Gilligan Information Page.

One of my favorite shows in between Pros and XF fandom was Miami Vice. The Miami Vice Chronicles is a well-done site with great info.

I hang out with a group of fans who like to do things collectively. We call ourselves the Media Cannibals. There's not much on our page now except links to other MC pages, but if you want to get info on our vids or other stuff, this is where to start.

If you enjoyed the fascinating, unusual film Velvet Goldmine, here's a great web site, with lots of great stills and links.

Rants and Essays

Gwyneth Rhys's rants and essays page also contains a little about her history in the fandom, and can be accessed here at drizzle.com/.

  • a really big-ass rant against archive mania In which I hold forth on people who think it's okay to take your stuff off your site and put it on theirs without asking, and the utterly bizarre notion some fans have that a link or a rec *takes up bandwidth*, and they haven't got a clue what that even means.
  • Slash without the slash a ramble on how I finally came to understand het slash. What the hell is that? you may ask. Well, I did too for a long time. Straight, or het, slash is a term I've heard people use for a while, but I never understood it. This is as good a theory as I can muster.
  • Macho man a rant about how fanfic wussifies Skinner. Is Skinner the most manly man on television? A lot of people think so. Then why do fanfic writers keep turning him into a closet snugglebunny?
