After the Star Trek Usenet alt.fan.q went down, Mercutio created an archive saving posts from the list, including stories, quotes, non-fiction, poetry, and "generally, anything to do with Q"[1]. In early 1999, JJ Arrow either assisted or took over the archive[2]. In 2004, Alara hosted the archive on her site as the Alt.Fan.Q Story Archive. The archive also included links to other archives plus Mercutio's recommendations for gen and adult/erotica fanfiction focussing on the character of Q. As a backup to a defunct mailing list, the archive was closed to submissions and remains online as part of Alara.net.

Alt.fan.q Archives
[Mercutio] This archive includes stories, quotes, non-fiction, poetry, and generally, anything to do with Q. The archivist takes no responsibility for the quality of the fiction here :-).This collection is no longer being updated. Interested parties who would like to host a live archive and serve as archivist should contact [email protected]. None of these stories are to be sold or redistributed for profit. All rights belong to Paramount Pictures and to the original authors.
[Alara] This is a static mirror and not being updated anymore. I rescued almost all the files from Mercutio and JJ's old alt.fan.q archive and put them up here. If you are interested in taking over archiving, let me know. Added Jan 2004.

Authors' Personal Sites
- Alara's Q Fanfic - Exactly what it sounds like.
- Mercutio's Stories - One-stop shop for Mercutio's writing. Most of her Star Trek fic is Q-related, but she's worked in many other fandoms.
- Queriana's Q Fanfiction - Queriana's too recent a writer to appear on this archive, but all her stuff can be found here.
- Varoneeka's Slash, Mush and More - All of Varoneeka's work, collected. Also has some work by Ruth Gifford and Jeanita Danzik.
- JM's Fanfiction Diversions - JM is another Q writer too new to appear on this archive. Most of her work is available here.
Recommended Reads from the Alt.Fan.Q Archive
- And Baby Q Makes Three by Mercutio - A funny parody of how Paramount could have handled the episode "The Q and the Grey". Winner of 1996 Alt.Startrek.Creative award for Best Parody.
- Blank by JJ Arrow- A moving story in which Q is robbed of his personality by another Q, and restored to it only by the intervention of Janeway.
- Cruise with the Vampire by Mercutio - Vampires, "The Princess Bride" and Q. Who could ask for anything more? A humorous romp.
- Dance of Chameleon and Mirror by Alara Rogers -The reason for Q and Guinan's animosity is revealed. If you like "Only Human" and haven't read this, you're missing out.
- From Me to Q by Julia Houston - The first story by Julia Houston, and in my opinion, an untoppable original Picard/Q tale. Powerful and twisty, this story is an engaging must-read. My pick for a 1997 A.S.C. award.
- Happy Bday from Q by Ronald O - An entertainingly done 20th century crossover story.
- Mithrais Takes a Q by Joanne S - The best of Joanne's romances involving Q. Read this one to catch the addiction.
- Only Human - by Alara Rogers - The ultimate must-read from the alt.fan.q archive. Q loses his powers and becomes a very unhappy man.
- Smart Trek 2 -- The Wrath of Q by Ken K - Maxwell Smart meets The Next Generation. Avoid at your own peril. Yet another funny story.
Recommended Reads from the Alt.Fan.Q Erotic Archive
- EsQPade by Brenda Antrim - More of a Bashir story than anything else, but as emotional angst and sex goes, this is pretty dang good.
- His Beloved Pet by Atara and Ruth Gifford - Run, do not walk, to read this story. An emotionally heartwrenching story of Q and Picard involved in B&D.
- InseQurity by Alara Rogers and Mercutio - Alternate to "Only Human". Winner of 1996 Alt.Startrek.Creative award for Best Next Generation Story.
- InterQ by The Anon Sisters - Smutty good fun -- the surprises and twists in this tale had me off-balance to the end.
- Lifewish by Emma Woodhouse - Another heartwrenching tale. Q toys with Paris to find the true nature of love.
- My Fair Jeanne by Ruth Gifford - Q turns Picard into a woman. Winner of 1995 Alt.Startrek.Creative award for Best Next Generation Story.
- Picard/Q Backrub Fantasy by Atara Stein - This one is only a vignette, but just reading it makes for a better backrub than some I've gotten in the past.
- The Best of All Possible Worlds by Jeanita - A dark, absorbing story in which Picard tries to redeem the Picard of "Dark Mirror"'s alternate universe. Winner of 1996 Alt.Startrek.Creative award for Best General Romance.
- The Louder the Song by Varoneeka - Oh my, oh my. Ruth Gifford, move over. Varoneeka creates a universe in which Q and Picard must fall in love or else, and the way Q goes about it is more than memorable.
- Three's a Crowd by Christine F - Q forces a woman to choose between sex with him and sex with Picard. The very first story I encountered on alt.startrek.creative.
- With or Without You by Atara - This story is actually a sequel to "She Moves in Mysterious Ways", but is in my opinion, superior. A Q and Picard romance, one which would leave anyone believing that they belong together.
