Julia Houston is a fan of Star Trek and other science fiction and fantasy fandoms, mainly active in the 1990s and early 2000s. She is known for her fanfiction, meta and episode reviews across several flavours of Trek, including TOS, TNG, DS9 and Voyager. She wrote a weekly column on Trek fandom for About.com, where she served as the 'Star Trek Guide', compiling an often-recommended list of links (now offline). Several of her stories have been widely recommended.
Her About.com bio reads:
Julia Houston started watching Star Trek at birth and loves all five incarnations, was totally hooked on Lost in Space as a child, has read all the Narnia books several times, saw StarWars when she was twelve and felt like God had made a movie just for her, and general reads/watches any and all things sci-fi or fantasy.[1]
Example Works
- From Me to Q -- long gen story that was widely recommended. Interesting alien species, plausible crew characterisations, plus a plot, to boot! An oldie but a goodie[2]
- Fanfic and Other Obsessions -- meta on fanfiction, based on a fan survey
- Subtext and Slash: Having Your Cake and Eating it Too -- meta on slash
