For Those Who Came in Late (subtitle: "A Guide to Fandom Universes") is a guide to fandom television and movies.
The first three issues were edited by Anne C. Sabol. The last one by the editors of Anime House Press.
Each section was written by a different contributor.
In the days before the internet and easy access to information, these zines were handy resources.
Descriptions and Mission
From the adzine, Zine Scene:
It's everything you always wanted to know about (fill in name) but were afraid to ask.' For each series featured in any issue, we cover the topics such as: broadcast history, cast listings and descriptions, guest characters who play a key role, and the major storyline highlighting key episodes often referred to in fan fiction.
From the adzine, For Your Information:
Have you ever been reading a multi-media zine and come across a show you've 1) never seen; 2) seen only once or twice; or 3) seen many moons ago when it was first run but have forgotten the details? This zine lay be your answer. It's "Everything you always wanted to know about (fill in name) but were afraid to ask". For each series in any issue, we cover topics such as broadcast history, cast listings and description, major guest stars who play a key role, and their major story line highlighting key episodes often referred to in fan fiction. Now accepting subaissions. SASE for submission guidelines or notification of final price info (please be specific which you want).
From the first issue:
The purpose of the zine which you now hold in your hands is to familiarize readers and writers with series with which they are otherwise unfamiliar. So many of these series show up in zine stories and, especially in the case of mixed-universe zines, a reader may only be familiar with some of the universes covered. I myself have found that some series are easy to read without knowing anything about them previously and others — I'm ready to give up after a few pages because I'm hopelessly lost.
Issue 1
For Those Who Came In Late 1 was published in July 1991 and contains 154 pages. It was edited by Anne C. Sabol.
The art is by Charlie Kirby, Nora Mayers, and Jeanne McClure.
From the editorial:
It all started at a 500 watt radio station in (wait a minute - wrong story) [1]. Actually the story of FTWCIL began while reading Teri Sarick's Wizards and Warriors story in Of Dreams and Schemes. My memory of the show was quite vague and I wasn't sure which information was part of the show and what was made up for the story. When I tried to find out, I found almost nothing. I found some guides with the basic premise of the show and a short cast list but not the things I wanted to know. So I said to myself, "Self, this is the kind of zine you could publish".
I had never considered publishing before because I'm not a writer (which will be obvious to you by the time this editorial is finished — if it isn't already). I'm an organizer. I love to read fiction but my own life is more geared toward facts. I wanted to gather for readers and possible zine writers the known information about the characters in a series or movie — what we know of their background, their likes and dislikes, and, for those who don't know the actors/actresses, what they look like.
As usually happens with ideas, I mulled it over for a while, mentioned it to a few pen pals and otherwise generally did nothing. The next thing I knew, I was getting letters saying that people were starting to write things for me already! Since I had some specifics in mind as far as format and things to be covered, I thought I'd better get off my rear and get guidelines together (it's all your fault, Aloma).
As I knew my writing skills were limited, the only way I could make a real go of it was to recruit some real writers. I sent guidelines and a sales pitch to some of the "pros" in fandom and this is the result. We have some of fandom's best telling us the story of their favorites. A number of others are lined up for future issues.
