Short Canon Description
From For Those Who Came in Late #1:
V.H. Adderly was the top ISI agent in Europe until his left hand was crushed by Victor Baranov. Refusing to retire, he has been reassigned to Miscellaneous Affairs, the ISI department in the basement (literally), whose most important duties seem to be "walking dogs and playing chauffeur". His superior in the three person department, Melville Greenspan, "lives up to the Greenspan tradition of causing chaos wherever he goes." Mona Ellerby, Adderly's coworker and a charter member of the "ISI Receptionist Attack Squad", helps Adderly in his assignments. Adderly is still a top agent, however, and he finds intrigue where no one wants to look. A chauffeur assignment becomes a kidnapping, a science experiment becomes a major secret weapon that the other side wants to get, a hard rock station is transmitting secret messages, a foreign embassy is taken over by terrorist hotel staff — Major Clack: "What's next, Adderly, Nazis in the secretarial pool?"
Adderly solves these mysteries, with help of Mona and the hindrance of Greenspan, and tries to prove to his old superior. Major Clack, that he still has what it takes to be an agent in Europe. Adderly: "Let me get this straight. If I screw up an assignment, I'm not good enough for overseas. But if I do a good job, then I'm too valuable to be sent anywhere?"
