Callan is a British action-drama spy television series.
It began as "A Magnum for Schneider", February 1967, TV play broadcast as an episode of the anthology series Armchair Theatre.
It starred Edward Woodward as David Callan, an agent dealing with internal security threats to the United Kingdom, not unlike that of MI5, but with permission to used torture and other ruthless methods to produce results. Te completed a variety of dirty jobs — blackmail, execution, extortion, kidnapping — all in the name of "Her Majesty's Government". Callan stays in this job because it's all that he is good at. While his methods and department are unsavory and despicable, he is portrayed as being better than his sadistic upper-class colleagues and superiors.
