Geralt/Jaskier, also known as Geraskier, is the slash pairing of Geralt of Rivia and Jaskier in The Witcher fandom. The pairing is a slash juggernaut in the fandom.

Prior to the release of the first season of The Witcher on Netflix, the pairing of Geralt and Jaskier was a rarepair, with only a small number of fanworks. Since then, interest in the pairing skyrocketed, becoming by far the most popular for the franchise and ranking in 4th place on Tumblr Fandometrics' Year in Review 2020 top 100 ships.

Canon

Jaskier is Geralt's closest friend and frequent traveling companion.

Bookverse and Gameverse

In the original books Jaskier and Geralt were close. They loved each other, Geralt openly admitted that they were friends even when other people slandered Jaskier for being a dandy.

Showverse

The show brought Jaskier into more stories than he was originally involved in in the books, correctly predicting that he would be a fan favourite.

Throughout the first season, Jaskier follows Geralt obsessively around like a lost puppy, singing songs to praise him while also relying on The Witcher's protection when needed. In episode six, the pair even share a lovers' tiff of sorts after it's made clear that the Bard disapproves of Geralt's romantic interest in Yennefer. And then there's the specific language Jaskier uses too. How often would a "friend" say something like, "Oh, you usually just let strangers rub chamomile onto your lovely bottom?" Lovely. Bottom.

Season 2 saw Jaskier's song, "Burn, Butcher, Burn", about his breakup with Geralt. Being seen by fans as a song of a burned ex.

Fandom

No Ship War

In the early days of the fandom after the premiere of The Witcher on Netflix, there was virtually no ship war between shippers of Geralt/Jaskier and Geralt/Yennefer, the love interest of Geralt in canon. There instead arose a thriving OT3 of Geralt/Jaskier/Yennefer.

I love the witcher fandom because ship wars? Whomst? We only know respect and ot3

Common Tropes in Fanworks

  • Kidfic: About raising Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter in canon, together as their daughter.
  • Apology scene: Geralt needs to beg and crawl to get Jaskier to take him back after the season 1 finale mountain breakup
  • Hurt/Comfort: Jasiker receiving the hurt, and Geralt providing the comfort, is the most common
  • Modern AU: placing Geralt and Jaskier in a modern setting, this might be a mundane AU or still involve fantastical elements, sometimes with reincarnation/soulmate backgrounds
  • Top/Bottom Dynamics:: Top Geralt tends to be more popular, but Top Jaskier is also fairly common
  • Jaskier is not fully human: having Jaskier be half of a fantastical race is common, some popular choices are fae, elf, or demon. This may be one way to ensure that the pairing has a long life together, because witchers life longer than humans, and it may also be a way to explain why the actor never ages on the show
  • Threesome or Poly: with the most popular choice for a third partner being Yennefer, although fanworks that include one of the other witchers, like Eskel, can also be found

  • Here we go again~! by Likorys, Jasker is an omega in a world where they're on the top of everything, fertile and precious, yet still used by those around for political marriages and the likes. Witchers are always alphas, always golden-eyed and always seen as one moment away from snapping and becoming mindless with lust or rage. Jaskier doesn't buy into it and when he sees a Witcher harassed in public, he intervenes.
  • The god of scraped knees. by spqr, Jaskier’s been pretending to be human for so long now that he hardly remembers what it feels like to be a sorcerer. He doesn’t want to remember what it feels like to be a sorcerer. But people still murmur his name with reverence in certain dim halls; Dandelion, Dandelion, destroyer of worlds.
