Jaskier is a prominent character in The Witcher series across the books, games and tv series. He is a bard and travelling companion of Geralt of Rivia, played by Joey Batey in the Netflix adaptation of the books.
In the original Polish he is called Jaskier, which literally translates as Buttercup. In the English versions of the video games and novels, this is translated as Dandelion. His rarely-used given name is Julian Alfred Pancratz.
Canon
Jaskier is of noble birth and studied the Seven Liberal Arts at Oxenfurt Academy before becoming a professor for one year and then leaving the academy to travel the world.[1]
In the third season of the Netflix television adaptation, Jaskier begins a romantic relationship with Radovid[2]. This is the first time across the media properties that Jaskier is depicted in a queer relationship. Within the same season, Jaskier is also shown having a romantic and physical relationship with Vespula, further cementing the Netflix portrayal of Jaskier as one depicting a bisexual identity.[note 1]
Joey Batey, who portrays Jaskier in the Netflix adaption, says this about the relationships:
It’s been really rewarding to see [his love life] told in a very visual way. [We] ensured that these romances are told truthfully — and sensitively and carefully, without resorting to stereotypes… Hopefully we’ve created something that is special, a sapioromantic and sapiosexual [connection] that is as flawed as any other relationship in this show.https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/witcher-season-3-henry-cavill-interview
