Fan Bio

From her bio on AO3:

I started writing when I was 5, and it was fanfiction of a sort: I had loved a particular book, but didn't like the ending, so I rewrote it.

When I was 18, I put out a small, bad zine, printed on pink legal-size paper, as I recall. Star Trek. Later on, I put out another three issues of the same zine, but more mature in layout and scope.

I've written in several fandoms: TOS, Star Wars, Professionals, Miami Vice, Highlander, Rat Patrol, Holby City, Forever Knight, The Mentalist, Babylon 5, and NCIS. A lot of it is unpublished. and more of it is in hard copy only. Due to the assistance of incredibly kind people, more and more of the old material is getting published on-line.

I have written under the pseudonyms Kate Santovani and Roxanne Verellen -- the latter was a joint pseudonym with Jean Coleman for a series of Miami Vice stories. I can be found on DW and on LJ as dejla. If you want to contact me privately, you can do so through those forums, in answer to a post, or as a message sent to dejla at livejournal dot com.

I always write what I want to write, and the audience is secondary. Primarily I write het. Secondarily, I write gen. There is occasional femme-slash and rarely slash, but only in those series where I can see it happening. I don't usually see it happening. Others' mileage and their writing will probably vary.

I work in Manhattan, and I work long days. My fic is my way of staying sane. I don't always have time to answer comments, but I love hearing from people who read my work. I'm going to borrow here from another writer -- you do not need to ask my permission to remix, podfic, translate, create art for or create secondary fanwork of any fanfiction I write. However, please let me know you are doing so, please include a link back to my work, and feel free to share the link to your work with me. I'd love to see what you do. [1]

Laymon was the chair of the The SF/Media Fan Fund between 1983-85, and then of the fan fund for MediaWest*Con between 1986-98.
