It contains one story and one vignette.

Summary: Red Lanterns

Northeastern California, on a cold November day—a savage assault on a Sheriff’s Department brings CBI in to assist.

Three masked assailants with semi-automatic rifles assaulted the employees of the DuLacs County Sheriff’s Department. Why?

The Sheriff is baffled. With one deputy in surgery, another with retrograde amnesia, and the third on suspension, CBI lacks witnesses and motive. Teresa Lisbon needs to know—one of the victims was a CBI agent for six years, and Lisbon’s trainee.

Patrick Jane needs to know—an eight-year-old girl was in the office, but is nowhere to be found. If Jane can coax the memories from the Assistant Sheriff, CBI will have the missing pieces of the puzzle. If they can put the jigsaw puzzle together, they can find the assassins, and figure out why three people were murdered.

If they can’t, an eight-year-old girl may stay missing forever.

Summary: Red Sky at Morning

Jane asks a favor.
