We could use an "Event" template, for conventions and other recurring events. (Fic challenges, award ceremonies, monthly LARPs, whatever). --Elfwreck 22:26, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Is there a (simple) way to make the type of infobox show up as a header in it? So it says, at the top, "PERSON" or "ARCHIVE" or "FANDOM SOURCE TEXT" or something like that? It's disconcerting to click on a link and have to scan around the page looking for something that indicates if this is a person or the name of a TV show. (This is covered by categories, I know--which are at the bottom of the page, under all the content. A centered heading in the Infobox would make it easy to identify.) --Elfwreck 21:25, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Good suggestion! I'll have a play around. --Hope 22:31, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

I don't see "Filk Album" on this list. Can it be added? --Mrs. Potato Head 16:44, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

Subcategories

We now have 101 infoboxes! Can we get some sub-categories for ease of browsing? For example...

I think everything (or maybe everything except the fandom-specific fanfiction templates?) should be kept in the infoboxes category still, but having subcategories will help people navigate all the options. - Hoopla (talk) 21:45, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

I actually think it looks fine the way it is now, I can quickly scroll down to find the one I am looking for, it is in alphabetical order and I think the title of the infoboxes are pretty self explanatory. I could see maybe needing subcategories in the future, if the list gets ridiculously large, but I don't think it needs it at the moment, it would just add an extra step to the process. -- Kingstoken (talk) 22:13, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
An extra step in what process? Getting the infobox you're looking for? I don't think so, if we leave all of them also in Category:Infoboxes. But I think the category is already big enough to be hard to navigate for people who aren't already familiar with the infoboxes. It was pretty hard for me to find what I was looking for when I joined, and we've gotten a handful of new infoboxes since then, and even still I sometimes have a hard time finding the infobox I need because even when the names are self-explanatory they're not always what I expect.- Hoopla (talk) 22:31, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
For the record, Wikipedia calls this Diffusing vs. Non-diffusing subcategories. I believe you're proposing making the subcats non-diffusing in this case, and I agree with that proposal. -- Quaelegit (talk) 05:26, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Restarting this convo since we currently DO have subcategories; and templates in the subcats are NOT in the parent category. Wikipedia calls this Diffusing categories (linking for their explanation, which might be helpful) and it is standard practice over there, with some exceptions. I like Hoopla's proposal to make the subcats in here non-diffusing, because like Kingstoken I like being able to browse all the infobox options at once and weigh which one is best. (E.g.the Furry page has Template:Glossary infobox right now. I'm not gonna change it, but if I were starting the page from scratch I would weigh that against other possibilities, such as Template:Fandom since it's a Fandom by Community) or maybe even other options. E.g.2 - when I make pages for musicians -- Template:FandombyText-RPF is clear enough for bands with a notable RPF fandom, but sometimes I'm documenting bands more for fans using their music in animatics and such, in which case I might consider Template:PersonProfile, Template:Song, Template:Album, Template:FandombyText, maybe even more.)
But the more important issue (to me) is that currently the subcategories are only partially implemented -- e.g. Template:Discord is in Category:Fan community infoboxes but Template:MailingList is in the parent Category:Infoboxes. We can debate whether they should both be in both categories, or both be in only "Fan community infoboxes" (again my vote is for the first option), but I strongly feel they should be sorted consistently. (Or if you take exception my example -- Template:Vid is in Category:Fanwork infoboxes but Template:TikTok is in the parent Infobox category. Clearly both of those are types of fanworks!)
Any objection to re-sorting the template to make subcategories 1) Non-diffusing 2) more comprehensive? If no one speaks up I'll probably go ahead and do it in a few weeks.-- Quaelegit (talk) 05:26, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Help Me? Can't Figure Out How to Make New Infobox

I've been trying to get some help with this for roughly a week now, but neither Fanlore nor the gardener I contacted have been able to get back to me. Plus, the "help:infoboxes" link goes to a wikiapedia link which didn't help me make my infobox at all. I'll basically just copy and paste what I wrote on the gardener's talk page.

I am not code savvy so I copy and paste other infobox code then insert what needs to go there. But I can't figure out how to fix an issue I'm having where once I put the infobox template into a page, then type into the sections (like arpgname= Fawnlings), once I hit preview nothing shows up after the =. I can't figure out how to get it to show and the template help pages aren't really explaining the problem either. Could you possibly help me? Thanks! The infobox I'm trying to make is here Template:ArtRoleplayGame. Patchlamb (talk) 22:47, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi Patchlamb! I took a look. The problem you're having is that...okay for example you have "arpgname=" but then below you have "{{{name|}}}". You need to make all the parts inside the three {{{ match the parts with the equal signs. - Hoopla (talk) 02:59, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

Oh thanks so much! That makes sense, I will remember that if I ever need to make or edit another infobox :) Patchlamb (talk) 20:52, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

I think Zine Resource should be in fanworks

Zine resources are zines themselves. --MPH 17:27, 6 February 2024 (UTC)

==I think "vid" should be in this section. --MPH 19:31, 27 February 2024 (UTC)

Yeah I just left a longer comment further up the page about this -- currently the subcats are not comprehensive, and it makes searching or infoboxes more difficult. Template:TikTok and Template:VideoEssay should also go in the fanworks subcat. Probably a number of others as well. -- Quaelegit (talk) 05:31, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
