BAIT: A Queerbaiting Podcast, also known as Baitpod, is a podcast hosted by Zoe and Maj about notable ships labeled as queerbait. Occasional episodes will cover straight ships that the hosts consider to be treated in similar manners to queerbait ships.

An analysis and celebration of the best queerbait ships out there.

Format

Introduction

The unofficial theme song for BAIT is Angel with a Shotgun; that is, Maj tells the audience to pause the show and listen to Angel with a Shotgun before every episode.

Themes

The Dynamic is frequently discussed.

Music may be brought up to indicate themes utilized by ships, as illustrated in megalodonpussy's 86-track Spotify playlist of all songs mentioned throughout the run of the show, also posted on Tumblr.

Conclusion

At the end of each episode, the hosts will rate the relevant ship on a 10-point scale and determine how good the ship is (how well the characters suit each other) and how good the bait is (how well the show queerbaits).

They also discuss what they are currently being baited by, and may suggest media to pair the episode's topic with. This might be a fanfic, a fanvid, a fanmix, or another show entirely as with Hannibal and Killing Eve.

History

Lobotomygate

In September 2019, the hosts celebrated the 12-year anniversary of Castiel's introductory episode on Twitter. Many Wincest shippers trolled their comments. The hosts trolled back and said that incest shippers should be lobotomized. Baitpod's Twitter account was thusly mass-reported and suspended indefinitely.[1][2]

Kurt from Glee

In September 2022, the remade Twitter account ran a ship bracket. Destiel won the final poll, but Klaine (notably not a participant in the original bracket) was declared the winner, and it was revealed that this was a publicity stunt to promote their upcoming episode about Kurt Hummel's impact on queerbait.[3] The episode has yet to be released.

bait is a podcast for people who think fanfiction is bad on the whole but have a few fics they’ll defend as top tier literature. it’s for people who hear “can’t help falling in love” and have to snap out of it. it’s for people who started using the term girlboss ironically and now can’t seem to stop. above all, it’s for anyone who understands being a fan of something is inherently cringe but still finds themselves over and over again unable to repress how much they love to invest in things even when they know they could and probably will be disappointed. there are some one star reviews here because the hosts got playful on twitter, so if you identify as some sort of “tender” being it probably will not be your cup of tea, but if you have any sense of humor and don’t mind potentially cry-laughing in public, it’s in your best interest to give it a shot.
