Killing Eve is a British-made American drama television series produced for BBC America. It is based on Luke Jennings's Codename Villanelle novella series.
It focuses on Eve Polastri (portrayed by Sandra Oh), a desk-bound MI5 officer, who begins to track down talented, psychopathic, and beautiful assassin Villanelle (portrayed by Jodie Comer), and their relationship as both women become obsessed with each other. The show has been described as a feminine take on the traditionally masculine serial killer genre, with comparisons to Hannibal (TV series).
Fandom
The main ship is the relationship between Eve and Villanelle, and is known as Villaneve. The fandom is notable for producing predominantly femslash works as a result.
Following season 1, a small number of works appeared using the tag Killing Eve AU. In most of these works, characters from other fandoms take on the roles of Eve and Villanelle. These works are becoming a recognizable subgenre of Assassin AU fanfiction.
Series Finale
The series finale was heavily criticised, primarily for its killing off of Villanelle soon after a more explicit exploration of her and Eve's relationship. See Villaneve#Series Finale Criticism for more.
