Star Wars is a space opera film series with a huge worldwide fandom and a massive impact on pop culture. In 1999 "Episode 1" (The Phantom Menace) was released, rejuvenating the fandom and overshadowing the other prequel movies with the fannish response.

The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy refers to the set of these three movies:

The TV shows of Star Wars: The Clone Wars are also considered part of "Prequel era" Star Wars.

Canon

The prequel movies are set the generation before the Original Trilogy and follow the relationship between Luke and Leia's parents, Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala against the political backdrop of the Clone Wars, the fall of the Republic and the Jedi Order and the rise of the Empire.

There were two Clone Wars animated series - The Clone Wars (2003-2005 ) which covered the exploits of Obi-Wan Kenobi and fellow Jedi during the Clone Wars and the second Clone Wars series (2008-2013). Technically both were part of the Expanded Universe, but the series was one of the few EU works to be chosen to remain canon and a 6th season was released in 2014. In 2020, the final season was released. The series covered not just the Clone Wars but various mystical elements from the deep history of the Jedi and Sith and premonitions of Anakin's fall. The 2020 season was set at the end of Revenge of the Sith and included Order 66.
