The Small Fandoms Bang (also Small Fandom Bang) was founded in 2011 by spikedluv & a co-mod as a big bang challenge for miscellaneous small fandoms. Its tagline is the big bang for small fandoms. Fandoms are not set by the moderators, with any small FPF fandom being eligible. Small fandoms are broadly defined as those having fewer than 2,000 online stories. Stories about real people are excluded, unless they are based on a fictional source. Crossovers & fusions between fandoms qualifying as small are permitted.[1]

Stories are required to be at least 10,000 words. All ratings & genres are accepted, including gen, het & slash. Associated works are created for all stories; formats include not only artwork in the form of covers, banners & icon series, but also fanmixes, vids & podfics.[1]

Author sign ups occur in autumn, and posting is in April of the following year. The challenge was administered at Livejournal from 2011-2019 but has now moved to run out of Dreamwidth solely during Round 9 (2019-2020).[2] Eight annual rounds have been completed and one (2019-2020) is ongoing.
