Showcase Presents the Alternate Universes of Star Wars was published in 1979 and has 165 pages (plus fold-outs). It contains mainly Star Wars fiction but does have one long Star Wars/Star Trek crossover.
The art is by Randy Ash, Stanley M. Campbell, Gordon Carleton, Connie Faddis, Amy Falkowitz, Jane Firmstone, Doug Herring, Kathy Higley, Winston A. Howlett, Monica Miller, P.A. Munson, Carrie Rowles, Joni Wagner, and Susan Wyllie. Two of the illos were originally fold-outs, but reduced to a simple full-page in subsequent printings.
It has a Star Trek: TOS sister zine called Showcase.
Slow Sales and Debt
Despite the zine's impressive lineup of artists and authors (fans who'd made their fanworks mark in the Star Trek fandom), the zine had poor sales. The editor wrote a personal statement in Universal Translator #7 about this topic:
When Star Wars first came out, my zine [Star Trek] Showcase was (and continues to be) in great demand. I was foolishly encouraged by this demand to publish a SW zine, The Alternative Universes of Star Wars, even though I didn't have a large number of pre-orders. In order to pay for the printing, I took out a loan from the Methodist Credit Union. I have been selling zines and memorabilia and scrimping on groceries in order to pay back this loan ever since because the zine has just not sold. But now, I'm really swamped, and I would like to ask fandom for its help in paying down this debt by buying a copy of 'Alternative Universes' or sending a small donation. All donations will be carefully recorded to pay off the debt. If donations come in after the debt is paid off, I will return your money (please include a SASE) or donate it to your choice of the following organizations: dropped anonymously into the collection plate of the church where my husband is a minister; sent to World Hunger, cancer research, World Missions, or the ST Welcommittee; added to a special fund to finance the printing of Star Trek Showcase #5, for which I have already have a large number of SASEs expressing interest... Thank you.

Reactions and Reviews
1980
If there had been nothing other than Star Wars, the fans would have to (and did) create their own expanded versions of this universe. Contents: David Prowse (Darth Vader) interview; discussion of Sith/Black Jedi/Universe and story by Patricia Munson; Han and Chewie adventure (by Anna Mary Hall); encounter between the Millenium Falcon and the pre-movie Enterprise (by Diana K. Moore); 'Quinette' of stories dealing with Luke's father and Darth Vader going into the training as Jedi's, Vader's "accident", the death of Luke's father, Vader's allegiance with the Emperor and his annihilation of the Jedi's, and the conclusion of affairs (after STAR WARS) involving Vader as well as the resolution of who is Leia's chosen love (by Pat Carpenter); other short stories and also a little poetry. Artwork by 12 different artists - mainly Stanley M. Campbell, Jane Firmstone, Kathy Higley, P.A. Munson, Carrie Rowles and Susan Wyllie.
Contains 175 pages, offset printing. Story quality good to very good. Artwork very good to gorgeous (especially Joni Wagner's fold-out of Han Solo (editor's note: pant, pant). RECOMMENDED. [1]
1985
In "Alternate Quintettes" in Alternate Universes of Star Wars, Pat Carpenter depicts Vader as a child, a young Jedi, a husband and father. [2]
