Pairings in B7 songvids was a 1993 post by Sandy Herrold on Lysator. It discussed which pairings could be found in Blake's 7 songvids for each of the main characters, with some examples of the songvids from that period.
The Essay
I spent far too many hours this weekend watching B7 song videos, from a variety of different vid makers, and got to thinking about video (as opposed to fan fiction) relationships in B7.
Figuring 12 major characters in B7 (Blake, Avon, Jenna, Cally, Vila,Tarrent, Dayna, Soolin, Servalan, Travis (leaving out Gan, since I'venever seen him 'paired' in a songvid, and Kerrill, since she's always with Vila)) you have 61 possible pairings.
So far, in my B7 vid watching, I have seen 19 pairings, so there's lots of possibilities left.
I have seen:

*Avon* Avon/Blake. Avon/Jenna, Avon/Cally, Avon/Vila, Avon/Tarrant, Avon/Dayna, Avon/Soolin, Avon/Servalan
*Jenna* Jenna/Blake, Jenna/Avon
*Cally* Cally/Avon and a couple of Cally/Tarrant
*Vila* Vila/Avon, Vila/Tarrant, Vila/Dayna (1/4 of a single vid)
*Tarrant* Tarrant&Blake, Tarrant/Avon, Tarrant/Dayna, Tarrant/Soolin, Tarrent/Servalan
*Dayna* Dayna/Avon, Dayna/Vila Dayna/Tarrant
*Soolin* Soolin/Avon, Soolin/Tarrant

Blake: The Blake&Tarrant one was very cool. Not slash, and very impressive, considering the lack of screen time they had together. I've really only seen one Blake/Jenna, which seems odd. Maybe it's too easy? (Maybe I've got a non-representative set of tapes???) Also, considering I've now seen 3! Tarrant/Vila (more on those later), where is the Blake/Vila? I've certainly seen some stories of the two of them.
Avon, video slut. Except for Travis, I've seen him with Everyone, not to mention the many vids where the entire song is on him. Special mention goes to one song where the first two verses, Avon chases Blake and never really gets him, and the second 2 verses, Tarrant chases Avon and never quite gets him. I didn't believe it, but it was well done.
Jenna-what can I say, the Rodney Dangerfield of B7: she gets no respect (or screen time). Often a bit player in other people's vids, or in general ones like "Girls just watch to have fun," she only has a couple of her own, and very few pairings. The Jenna/Avon was one verse out of a 4 verse song, where next he was with Pella, then Servalan and finally Soolin (how fickle!)
Cally--Lots of C/A vids out there, Lots! But everyone must think Aurons are almost monogamous...she hardly ever gets another date--there must be 20 C/A's for every one C/T, and she never gets any body else.
Vila--with the exception of Kerrill, (and a brief! fling with Dayna) Vila never gets the girl. I'm as big a slash fan as anyone, but it seems strange that his only pairings are with Avon and (my god) Tarrant. The first V/T vid we watched left us with our jaws hanging open unbelieving that we had watched (and liked) such an impossible thing. By the time we'd seen two more, we were feeling absolutely jaded, and capable of believing 20 impossible things before breakfast.
Tarrant--What can I say; I now believe in the power of brainwashing. After watching 4 hours of almost non-stop Tarrant vids, he now seems a more interesting character than I'd ever realized before. Scary.
Dayna--Her relationship with Tarrent now interests me more as well. Even her vids with Avon seemed credible, and I've never believed stories of them together. I've heard of fan stories circulated with audio tapes, where you are supposed to play the tape before you read the story. Next, maybe we'll have people circulating vids with stories.
Soolin--even while watching an excellent Tarrant/Soolin vid, I still couldn't do it--couldn't believe it. It is nice to know my mind draws the line Somewhere.
Servalan--Probably her best vid wasn't a pairing: it was called Wild Women Don't Get the Blues, and showed the 'good women' characters all looking depressed, and then Servalan looking thrilled just as she was threatening to kill someone.
Travis-- Setting the gooey-sweet "Follow Me" by John Denver to Blake/Travis, was a stroke of genius! The one Travis/Servalan song I've seen was great too. I think he also deserves more pairings. Anyone have a good song for Travis/Vila <snicker>?
Special Mentions to: Greek Sailors--I've finally seen it after hearing about it for so long and can now die happy, and Mr. Grinch, (from the Dr. Seus cartoon) for Avon: The video is ok, but the idea was great.
Are there other video pairings out there that I haven't seen yet? Warning: I'm not unwilling to make copies, but many of these are already 13th generation, and quite fuzzy.
