Memories/Recollections
Dawn was a wonderful person. Always kind, always careful, very thoughtful. She loved engaging in discussions about favorite shows and characters, and was always willing to hear other people's thoughts. She had a large heart and would welcome everybody in gatherings, remembering what was important in their lives and taking the time to ask. The combination of intellect and care can be a rare thing, and I always appreciated that about her. Dawn will be greatly missed. [2]
I met Dawnwind last year. As a new writer, I was filled with insecurities about my writing skills and unsure of how to navigate the world of storytelling. When I posted seeking help, Dawnwind responded and took me under her wing. From the very beginning, her brilliance as a writer captivated and inspired me. But beyond her technical skill, it was her kindness and patience that truly set her apart. Dawnwind never hesitated to offer constructive feedback, always delivered with a gentle touch and encouraging words. She was more than just an editor or a mentor; she became a friend and a pillar of support. Every time I doubted myself, she reminded me of my potential and urged me to keep writing. Her belief in me fueled my own confidence and helped me grow as a writer in ways I never thought possible. Dawnwind's impact on my life extends far beyond the pages of the stories we worked on together. She showed me the importance of nurturing talent with kindness and the power of believing in someone. For all that she has done, I am deeply grateful. Dawnwind, thank you for your guidance, your friendship, and your unwavering support. Your legacy as a brilliant writer and an extraordinary person will always be cherished.[3]
I never met [Dawnwind] and was introduced to her via the Starsky/Hutch Original bRomance (slash ship) [Facebook group]. She was very welcoming and friendly on the page and it was her wonderful stories and beautiful writing that will remain with me. Through her gorgeous writing I felt I knew her and she will always remain someone I felt great warmth for. Thank you Dawn.[4]
Dawnwind aka dawnebeth on various platforms, was a wonderful person. I've known Dawn for years. We shared at least four fandoms over that time: Professionals, Starsky & Hutch, Alias Smith & Jones, Doctor Who... I know there are more. She was fun, funny, energetic and personable. She loved fandom with a passion. She loved every aspect: writing (hundreds of stories!), drawing, editing, beta-ing, medical advice (she was a nurse all her adult life). I simply can't explain how much Dawn meant to me. Con roomie many times! She'd ask me every January which cons I was going to. She could do two a year, so she would pick two I was going to, and we'd hang for hours, days! She was generous to a fault. I have dozens of little hand-made fandom cards from over the years. She never missed a birthday or Christmas.
[Sample below]: She also made delightful scrapbooks. Mine is dated from 2009. It's over 150 pages of all sorts of items, thoughts, photos and newspaper/magazine clippings. I treasure it.[5]
I am very, very saddened by this news. When I came upon the world of S&H fanfic many moons ago, I found myself reading my way through AO3. There were a handful of authors who grabbed my attention by the collar - and Dawn was one of them. Dawn's stories are written in her own inimitable style. She had a way of taking a unique angle on an old story, or creating new stories that truly were her own. She brought keen insight into human nature. I book-marked one after the other of her stories as I went and couldn't get enough. But more than all this, Dawn was a lovely soul - at least, that's how she always came across to me when I'd see her engage on FB. It was this I glimpsed in her stories to which she brought her humanity, compassion, wit, and astuteness. Thank you, Dawn - we are a sadder place without you but we are better for knowing you and your stories that will always shine. May you rest in peace. I am keeping Dawn, her daughter.... and all her dear ones in my heart and prayers.[6]
