Kirawus, Kiraushi when written in Japanese, is a recurring, but not major, character from the manga Golden Kamuy.
Kirawus survived the Ainu gold hunt and is last seen living in America with the minor character Kimpusu and his friend Toshiyuki Kadokura, being an amateur movie director in the United States.
Canon
Kirawus was born within Kushiro Subprefecture, Japan, some unknown years before the start of Golden Kamuy. His exact age is one of the only few debated ages within the fandom, as most of the other characters have more concrete ones, but most fans believe he's in his late thirties/early forties. When he was a child, he was given the proper name[notes 1] Kirawus, meaning "horned," since he played with deer antlers as a child. The deer connection is a common theme in fanart for him.
In the 1890s or thereabouts, he traveled with Tetsuzou Nihei (a future tattooed convict) to hunt game. Some fanworks for both characters take place during this short period.
When Shiton Anehata, another tattooed convict, came to his kotan and violated an animal, Tanigaki Genjirou was falsely accused as the perpetrator and later had to be proved innocent by Asirpa, Sugimoto Saichi and their group. This arc introduced him.
Later, after a locust swarm devastated his village's food supply, his search for a job led him to be recruited into Hijikata Toshizou's squad as their Ainu translator. It's there he met Kadokura and the two became friends, with them both not being good at hand-to-hand combat or of particularity high intelligence. They're often called useless by Nagakura Shinpachi, though this is not true, as their involvement made it possible for Asirpa to secure the Ainu Land Deed during the manga's final arc. Him, Kadokura and Mansur became somewhat of a trio for fans due to their interactions during this arc and the epilogue.
Relationships
Kadokura Toshiyuki/Kirawus [門キラ (Kadokira) or キラ門 (Kirakado) in Japanese & Kadowus in the west] is by far his most popular pairing (coupling in Japanese). Their concave and convex (opposites attract in western fandom) nature is appealing to fans. Snuggling, playing games and falling in love are common tropes.
His second-most popular ship is the rarepair Kirawus/Ogata Hyakunosuke [尾キラ (Okira)], which pairs him with Ogata Hyakunosuke. Mansur & Kirawus & Kadokura Toshiyuki is also shipped as a gen (combi in Japanese) trio.

Characterization
It's been noticed by fans that since becoming Kadokura's friend, Kirawus has been portrayed more effeminately in canon, (the PixivEncyclopedia article for Kirawus says this makes him the Hijisquad's "heroine.") During the Town of Reunions arc, his only appearance is being relieved that Kadokura was safe from the battle at the brewery instead of trying to participate in the fight. The Battle of Hakodate arc, however, painted him as badass once more when he shot down a Japanese warship with a single cannon shot.
His more effeminate characterization is prevalent in many fanworks, especially Kadokura/Kirawus ones. He may encompass many uke tropes, as that's by far the most common interpretation of their relationship in the Japanese side of the fandom, or many tropes associated with bottoms in the western side of the fandom.

When a child is six years old and already has their personality formed, they give them a name based on what the child has done in their lives.
