Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Many characters from this generation received renewed interest in 2022 following the release of the prequel, Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Dawn/Volo and Akari/Volo (Volodawn/WielderShipping) is a popular ship across both games that is hard to tie down to one generation, as the game leaves it up to the player to conclude if Dawn and Akari (PL:A's protagonist) are the same character. Same applies to Lucas and Rei in ChosenMerchantShipping and Vololucas. It's joked about by fans.
I do like the idea of the PLA player being the player character of DPPT/BDSP (Akari/Rei being the name of the PLA rival instead), since I get a funny mental of them being completely exasperated when Volo reveals his true nature, "I gotta deal with some maniac trying to reset the world and become god AGAIN?"And Volo just standing there, thrown for a loop, like, "The hell? Arceus sent somebody with experience?"[1]
Relationships
The most popular ship this generation is Volkner/Flint (IgnitionShipping). Other popular ships include Dawn/Lucas (FortuneShipping), Cynthia/Dawn (GirlPowerShipping) and Barry/Lucas (ClingyShipping).
Other popular pairings, as seen on Archive of Our Own, are Cynthia/Steven Stone (DarkSteelShipping), Dawn & Barry, Cyrus & Cynthia, Dawn/Barry (FutabaShipping), Cyrus/Cynthia (MizuhikiShipping), and Cyrus/Saturn (GingaShipping).[2] Pokémon such as Lucario, Piplup and Arceus were also introduced.
Remaining named characters include Roark, Gardenia, Maylene, Crasher Wake, Fantina, Byron, Candice, Mars, Jupiter, Aaron, Bertha, Lucian, Cheryl, Riley, Mira, Buck, Marley, Looker and Caitlin.
