Final Fantasy VI (or Final Fantasy III in the original North American release) is the sixth game in the Final Fantasy series, created by Square Enix in 1994. It follows the story of Terra, a young woman born with innate magical ability in a time where it was thought extinct. Terra’s ability to bridge the gap between humans and Espers, (powerful deities) is abused by Kefka, the game’s antagonist.

As the final release of FF’s ‘classic’ era, a lot of FF6’s fanbase discovered it many years after its release. Overshadowed by the superior graphics of its successor Final Fantasy VII it remains one of the most underrated games in the series, however it maintains an active fanbase due to also being revered as one of the best in the series.

FF6 is notable for its enormous main cast, surpassing the 8 or so playable characters typical of a Final Fantasy game by a fair margin. The main and support characters include:

  • Locke x Terra
  • Locke x Celes
  • Celes x Terra
  • Locke x Rachel
  • Cyan x Elayne
  • Setzer x Celes
