Celes is a main character from the Square Enix game Final Fantasy VI.
Canon
A super soldier artificially grafted with magic, Celes initially serves the single purpose of serving the empire. After being rescued by Locke however her loyalties changed, and she devoted herself to instead stopping the empire. Perhaps the most emotionally tormented of the group, Celes is the first to witness the ruined world, where she fully believes that herself and Cid were the only survivors. Her turmoil even goes so far as attempting suicide when Cid passes away due to illness, only for a seagull wearing Locke’s bandanna to restore her spirits. Witnessing the monster Kefka has become, Celes feels not only responsible, but obligated to put things right.
Attempted Suicide
Yes, you read that right. While graphical limitations held the scene back, Celes did jump off a cliff while distraught. In a game marketed towards teenagers. This is debatably one of the darkest scenes in Final Fantasy history, despite lasting only a few seconds.
Fandom
Shipping
While firmly ‘secondary’ status after Locke and Terra, Celes is still a popular character in shipping. She is commonly paired with either (or both) of the aforementioned, however Celes x Setzer ships have a small niche due to his initial mistaking her for the famous singer Maria.
