Charlie/Vaggie, also known by the portmanteau Chaggie, is a popular femslash pairing in the Hazbin Hotel fandom.

Charlie and Vaggie are both an established couple and business partners from the beginning of Hazbin Hotel.

Fandom

Charlie/Vaggie seemed to become very popular shortly after the pilot aired, though not all fans of the episode interpreted the pair as a couple initially and this led to some intra-fandom conflicts (see Controversies and Creator Response).

The pairing joined centreoftheselights AO3 Ship Stats in 2021 for the first time at 78th in the Femslash Top 100, rising to 65th by 2023 and 14th by 2024. 2024 also saw it enter that year's Top 100 at 19th, making it the year's highest ranking femslash ship.

Vaggie is Charlie's vocie of reason. She hyped her up and encouraged her. But she's also there to keep her grounded. She makes sure Charlie doesn't get ahead of herself. She wants the best for Charlie. Vaggies realism is the perfect compliment to Charlie's niave nature.

Controversies

Considering that, by October 2023, only a single pilot episode of the show had aired and there were only two short webcomics alongside that, there was already a large amount of controversy within the Hazbin Hotel fandom[2], including involving the Charlie/Vaggie ship.

There was already a ship war between Charlie/Vaggie shippers and Charlie/Alastor shippers, and criticisms about Vaggie and Alastor from some fans of each ship which have led to wider-scale accusations and complaints of lesbophobia, acephobia, and biphobia in the Hazbin Hotel fandom[3]. Similar accusations have also been leveled at the creator of the show.

Creator Response

Some fans initially expressed doubt or confusion over Charlie and Vaggie being a couple and this was reduced (though not completely eliminated) when creator Vivienne Medrano, aka Vivziepop, confirmed they were a couple.
