Hi Harpie -- Welcome to Fanlore! So impressed by your Mad Page Creation Skillz!! One thing, disambiguation of titles isn't necessary unless a page already exists at the title. (It makes linking to the article from elsewhere much easier.) So I've moved your recent vid articles just to the vid title.

By the way, if you do need a disambiguator, it's done in lower case stating the fandom eg This is a Video (Fandom vid). There's a help page on the various naming conventions when disambiguation is necessary which might be useful.

Hope this helps and happy editing! Espresso Addict (talk) 04:09, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

Okay thanks! Just one thing, what about the A Trailer (Darcy/Steve vid) & A Trailer (Clint/Darcy vid)? They are both titled the same way as "A Trailer" and under The Avengers (Marvel) Vid category with the only difference of one is Darcy/Steve and the other Clint/Darcy (which is why I originally had the Darcy/Steve vid titled that way with the pairing in the title). Should A Trailer page be a disambiguation then, or is it fine? I added a little indent blurb at the above pages just incase. --Harpie (talk) 04:49, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
Ah, sorry, I was just going through the list of new pages and didn't notice there was another "A Trailer" vid. So there are two vids in the same fandom from the same vidder? Argh, that breaks the disambiguation rules! Throws up hands in horror. Could we perhaps call them Darcy and Steve - A Trailer and Clint and Darcy - A Trailer as in the Youtube versions? Espresso Addict (talk) 05:07, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
Yeah I feel your pain.. I was actually in the middle of making the Darcy/Clint "A Trailer" page when I saw your message. And those titles are fine too. --Harpie (talk) 05:13, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
Ack, sorry -- I was going to move them, but then I got distracted by shiny new page... Espresso Addict (talk) 03:05, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
LOL that's fine (happens to me all the time), hopefully I did everything right. --Harpie (talk) 03:06, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
Looks ok! It's not a good idea where the page has been substantively edited by someone other than you (as the history is required for copyright reasons), but otherwise the brute force approach works just fine when the gardeners are being lazy distracted. Espresso Addict (talk) 03:20, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Harpie, you're doing great work. I enjoy seeing your edits on the Recent Changes page! --Mrs. Potato Head (talk) 13:25, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

Awe thanks! I can't help it, I'm addicted to working on this site, lol. --Harpie (talk) 13:26, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
You've got company! --Mrs. Potato Head (talk) 13:40, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

I don't say it nearly often enough, but I'm always so happy to see your edits on the Recent Changes page, Harpie. --MPH (talk) 01:20, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Thank you again! :) I'm glad to hear that! Definitely makes me feel very appreciated. --Harpie (talk) 02:19, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Hey, did you remove Tony/Rhodey from the Avengers Pairings category, and remove The Avengers as one of the fandoms the pairing belongs in? I could've sworn I put those in there, but they aren't there now, and if I'm reading the history page correctly you're the only other person who's edited the page. If so, can I ask why? There are a number of Darcy pairings in the category and linking back to the Avengers fandom page, so I figured that only one person had to be a member of the Avengers team for the pairing to count. (And I don't read the comics, but it's my understanding that Rhodey's been an Avenger at various points anyway?) (Sorry if it's poor etiquette to post on your talk page about this; I'm still a bit of a novice round these parts, and didn't know if it was better to post here or on the Tony/Rhodey discussion page.)--User:PhoenixFalls (talk) 05:25, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

Yes I did, added the Category:Avengers Pairings back to it since you are probably correct on Rhodey's part. I don't read the comics either for The Avengers/Iron Man (I didn't realize he was actually apart of Avengers), I just assumed you were writing about the MCU The Avengers where Rhodey doesn't appear. Darcy doesn't appear in it either, but another person decided that all the crossover pairings would fit better there than in separate categories. (It's fine posting this here or at their discussion page.)--Harpie (talk) 05:50, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for putting it back. Like I said, I haven't read them myself, but I've heard that Rhodey actually leads the west coast Avengers team, and I get totally lost when trying to read comic character bios on Wikipedia or the Marvel Wiki, but they mention that he was also a member of the Secret Avengers. And Don Cheadle's now been confirmed as a member of the cast for Avengers: Age of Ultron, so he'll soon be a part of that section of the movieverse! --User:PhoenixFalls (talk) 05:54, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
Your completely welcome. I just read about that casting for AoU - looking forward to it. --Harpie (talk) 18:41, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

Hey, Harpie. Little question: I noticed that you're fan of Disney's Hercules(if edits on Greek Gods pages I created are anything to go by!). Did you know that Hercules is actually a Roman deity(his Greek name is Heracles)? Just so you know, because I noticed a change you made on Zeus's page... It's a really common mistake(heck, even my best friend, who's bit of mythology nut like me, sometimes slips) but I would appreciate if you would keep deity's Greek name on the page about a god from Greek Mythology, okay?

P.S. I already changed it and posted a reminder on Discussion page, but I wanted you to know it, so that you wouldn't be surprised later... Sorry for the lecture, but I'm really touchy about mixing Roman and Greek Mythology(probably because most of the books in my country about said topics mix them...*shudder* Imagine mixing up Loki from Norse Mythology and Marvel Universe... it's similar to that. Same guy, but different personality.) --Emma S. Tyler (talk) 23:36, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

Yes I'm a fan of Greek Mythology, grew up with it. I changed it to Hercules because that already had a page and was more well known spelling, plus it made the page look weird to have both names in while all the other children didn't have their Roman names listed so yeah. --Harpie (talk) 04:10, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your help on the Mega Man page, Harpie! You're awesome! ✧*.◟(ˊᗨˋ)◞.*✧ᗯ੨~ɪ̊♪ْ˖⋆ --MegaShameX (talk) 03:31, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

You're completely welcome!--Harpie (talk) 04:34, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

Question

What's the difference between tropes/genres and general glossary terms?

A trope is a literary device to describe common plot devices, for example Sex Pollen or Marriage Law. Genres are types of fics, for example Romance, Humor, and Horror. General glossary terms are fan related terms such as OTP or Big Bad.--Harpie (talk) 03:28, 26 May 2014 (UTC)

HEY HARPIE i just created a page for the Carmilla web series, but I don't know if I did it right?? Can you check it?

Pairing names

Hi, this might seem like a stupid question, but why did you change the Carenzo page to Caroline Forbes/Enzo? I named it Carenzo after checking the Naming conventions help page, and well... Nobody really uses Caroline/Enzo, everybody goes with a ship name; which made me think I should name the page that as well. Was I wrong to do so? Is the helppage out of date on the naming policy? Thanks in advance for the answer -Soyalex (talk) 09:58, 20 November 2014 (UTC)

No, you weren't wrong. If no one uses Caroline/Enzo and Carenzo is the commonly used pairing designation, then that's a good argument for naming the page that way. There are also good arguments for naming the page differently (smushed pairing names are often meaningless to people not in the fandom which can make it harder to find the page, there might be disambiguation reasons for having a different name, etc.). If the naming of the page is contested, it should be discussed on the the talk page of the page in question. I'm moving the discussion there. --Doro (talk) 10:21, 20 November 2014 (UTC)

Carmilla

HEY HARPIE i just created a page for the Carmilla Web Series, but I don't know if I did it right?? Can you check it?

Wow, thanks for letting me know! I moved the page to Carmilla (web series) to match other pages, and I think you started off good, but you need to add some sort of fandom information (I suggest checking out The Lizzie Bennet Diaries for some inspiration). I edited a little bit, so if you could expand on that - that should be good. Favorite pairings or some sort of news about where to find fanworks for the webseries would be really great (is it just AO3 or does Tumblr, YT, DA, DW, LJ, etc have places?). I found that Tumblr site, but I'm not 100% sure if that's for the webseries or the book. Maybe an article on the book would work as well if you're familiar with it and it also gained more fandom presence? Also, always remember to have "Category:Fandoms by Source Text" on the main fandom page until they get a category (which doesn't happen until they have more than one page dedicated to the fandom - if you make more pages, I think Category:Carmilla would work). If you have any more questions, let me know ;)
THANK U SO MUCH imma do that now!!
You're completely welcome! Anytime you need help, just let me know! :) --Harpie (talk) 02:36, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

Kid Dynamo

Hi Harpie! Thanks for updating the links on Kid Dynamo, I wasn't sure if I should do that or not (though I had found them). Any idea about contact with the author? Nerdvana (talk) 21:20, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

No sorry, I have no idea how to contact the author, none of the e-mails available for the author? Try googling the e-mail. Sometimes that leads to something. As for the links, I don't see why not you couldn't unless the author has decided has stated they don't want any links used.--Harpie (talk) 02:38, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
I just wan't sure if a new contributor to the wiki should make changes. Nerdvana (talk) 11:53, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

Website Images

Harpie, do you know how to make a copy of entire page of a website to add to Fanlore? Like this one: http://fanlore.org/wiki/File:Fortunecity_fy_watching_too_much.jpg

All I know how to do is make a screen shot of pieces of one, and that usually means I end up making the image almost too small to read even then. I work on a Mac mostly, but I do have access to a PC. --MPH (talk) 16:24, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

I believe all you really do is copy and paste screenshots of the whole page and work them into one file on Microsoft Paint (or whatever the Mac version of it is, sorry never had one!) - and I try to remove excess spaces (such as the sides or top/bottom if it's blank spaces). At least that's what I do when I actually do those kinds of screenshots. I don't know any easier ways to do it sadly.
Once uploaded to the site - you click on the full image (at least twice, maybe three), you should be able to view the image to size. I don't think there is any way around that otherwise it takes up too much space on wiki page.--Harpie (talk) 16:34, 2 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll fiddle around a bit more with it. --MPH (talk) 16:43, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

deleting categories

I cleaned up the Arrow categories. If you need to rename categories you yourself created and then delete the duplicates you don't want, there's no need to tag the empty duplicate categories with the propose deletion tag; if you have gardener permissions, you can just delete them on the spot. Just make sure that you clean up any wikilinks to the categories you're deleting. (If you think a category should be named differently, but need a discussion, you could use the attention-gardeners tag.)--aethel (talk) 17:02, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

Thank you! And I thought I had gardener permissions but it wouldn't let me delete the categories myself - that's why I tagged them. I can only "edit", "view history", & "watch" categories (and of course create them). I'll make sure next time to clean up the wikilinks (forgot I did those), sorry! --Harpie (talk) 17:09, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
I think that's some kind of group permission error; I reported it. Are you on the gardeners list?--aethel (talk) 17:42, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
Yup and thank you--Harpie (talk) 18:13, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

Pokémon

Hey Harpie, some of the pages with accents/special characters got messed up in the MediaWiki upgrade. We're trying to sort things at the database so we don't have to set up a bunch of new redirects. So you don't have to move them right now, they'll hopefully be fixed automatically soon! --sparc 01:26, 2 May 2016 (UTC)

Ok, I'll let them go then.--Harpie (talk) 01:28, 2 May 2016 (UTC)

Gardener

Hi, Harpie! I've sent you some emails via Fanlore — didn't you receive them? Eep, so sorry about that! Can you send me a message and I'll follow up? Apologies, again! --PriscillaD (talk) 20:42, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Section Titles

Hi Harpie! I noticed here that you changed some of the section titles on some character pages. I know we're not very consistent with them, but the original headings are IME what we've used historically and what are still on the Help:Character pages/Template. I personally do prefer the original section titles but I don't want to change them back without checking with you. Perhaps it's time for a wider discussion about this? The talk page of the character page template might be a good place to start, if you have thoughts. --sparc 03:04, 22 September 2017 (UTC)

Hey there

Just wanted to say thanks for editing/fixing my messes. I tend to do all my fandom stuff on mobile, and this don’t have access to all the HTML things at hand. :)

No problem! I tend to it on a computer, which is easier for me. --Harpie (talk) 04:46, 5 August 2019 (UTC)

Re Front Page and Unlimited Fan Fiction Archive

The front page asks for expansion of the page for the Unlimited Fan Fiction Archive. I took a look tonight and the site no longer exists, and none of the archive.org backups I've checked cover more than the front page - none of the fiction or forums. I've amended the page for this site accordingly, but unless someone has something to say about the history of the site the entry is pretty useless. I don't think I ever looked at the site while it was running, so I really can't help on that. What's the policy on this? --Marcus Rowland (talk) 22:09, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
