Through Danny Phantom was a year-long event for the Danny Phantom fandom to rewatch episodes and create episode-based fanwork. It was a one-time event that ran from 2012-2013 across multiple sites.
A Phandom wide re-watch. Because 53 episodes + 1 episode per week = 1 year of Danny Phantom goodness. :3[1]
History
Through Danny Phantom was created by dpsg1 and sapphireswimming.
The event officially began with the first livestream on June 1, 2012 and ran until the last livestream on June 7, 2013, although fanworks were encouraged even after the streams had ended.
It is similar but unrelated to DP Rewatch 2021, another Danny Phantom rewatch event held in 2021 created by sarasanddollar.
Overview
Purpose
Succinctly, the purpose of Through Danny Phantom was as follows:
Through Danny Phantom is a concerted effort on the part of the fandom to rewatch the show, one episode per week, over the course of the year.
And then to blog, write fanfiction, draw art, make videos, create gifs, etc around each episode.
Basically, we want to revive the phandom and have a lot of fun geeking out together. :3 [2]
Moderators
Through Danny Phantom was moderated by multiple people across different sites.
Moderators included: dashuramod (Wordpress), dpsg1 (Tumblr, Youtube), sapphireswimming (archive of our own, DeviantArt, and fanfiction.net), spirits-of-kin (DeviantArt), and tanger-catnip (DeviantArt, Livestream)
Weekly Schedule
Livestream announcements were posted on the DeviantArt group, the fanfiction.net collection, and the tumblr blog.
The weekly livestreams for each episode were held on Friday nights.
After each episode, discussions were had and fanworks were uploaded across the different sites.
Sites
Archive of Our Own
At the time of Through Danny Phantom, ao3 wasn't the favored fanfiction repository of most Danny Phantom fans. As such, there was no official activity on ao3 during the event. Some authors posted their works there in real time and others have posted or cross-posted their works to ao3 since the event ended.
Through Danny Phantom Collection
An official Through Danny Phantom collection was created by sapphireswimming on ao3 in 2020. It is open and unmoderated.
DeviantArt
DeviantArt was a main hub for activity for Through Danny Phantom, since it hosted weekly announcements, discussions, fanworks, as well as contests not held elsewhere.
Through-DP
The official Through Danny Phantom DeviantArt group Through-DP was moderated by sapphireswimming and spirits-of-kin. Group membership applications were automatically approved[3].
Through-DP Journals announced the weekly livestreams and shared other information relevant to the event and the group.
With permission, fanfics written for the event on other sites were cross-posted to Through-DP [note: crossposting was not up to date by the time the event ended]
Through-DP's Gallery is divided into four categories:
- Featured
- Contest Entries
- Stuff that came out of chats
- Individual folders for each episode's episode-based fanworks[4]
Contests
Through-DP held two contests during Through Danny Phantom:
- A contest to design the group's icon was held in July 2012.[5] The winning icon was created by militiathehedgehog and the runner up was created by SRL541[6].
- A contest to design promotional material for the event was held in August 2012[7]. The winning piece was by SRL541, the second place winner was a collaboration between Nebulous Mistress and The Orange Purse, the third place winner was a series of three pieces by Nebulous Mistress, and the fourth place winner was by SwimmerGirl96 [note: it has since been deleted]. The winners of the first and second place entries won DeviantArt points and a fanfiction commission from sapphireswimming[8].

Fanfiction written for Through Danny Phantom was primarily posted to fanfiction.net.
Through Danny Phantom Collection
Sapphireswimming created a Through Danny Phantom fanfiction "collection" (a single fic on their account with a new fic per chapter) to house any fics that people didn't want to post independently. There were over 130 fics posted to it by the time the event ended.
Livestream announcements were made each week in author's notes.
The collection's table of contents in the first chapter follow the following structure: [chapter number. episode (or TDP for the show in general). author. summary. genre. rating.]

Forum
The Through Danny Phantom forum was hosted at www.throughdp.freeforums.org.
The forum was home to episode-based meta, observations, and discussions.
The forum has since been deactivated due to inactivity and, unfortunately, does not appear to have been captured by the Wayback Machine.
Livestream
Through Danny Phantom weekly livestreams were hosted on livestream.com by tanger-catnip.
The first livestream was on June 1, 2012 and the last livestream was on June 7, 2013.
The episodes were shown in order, starting with Mystery Meat and ending with D Stabalized. There was confusion about the order of some episodes, due to discrepancies in their official numbering. The Danny Phantom finale episode Phantom Planet was not shown as part of the official livestream[9][10].
The episodes were shown in a double stream format, usually held on Friday nights at 7pm and 12am EST, although there were occasional schedule changes.
Partway through the event, pre-show showings were added to the streams. These fell into three categories:
- Spooky or "horror" adjacent: The Addams Family, Shaun of the Dead, Coraline, Young Frankenstein, Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters, Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Nightmare Before Christmas, etc.[11]
- Themed: Back to the Future before the episode Master of All Time, The Mummy before the episode King Tuck, Cinderella before the episode Beauty Marked, etc.[12][13]
- Other: Episodes of other cartoons like Adventure Time or Invader Zim, the Desert Bus for Hope charity stream, etc.[14][15]
Having two streams with additional media shown before and between them encouraged people to come early, stay late, and talk with each other in the livestream's chat throughout the evening. It also allowed some people in other time zones to catch the stream at a more reasonable hour.

Tumblr
Tumblr was just starting to become a major hub for the Danny Phantom fandom in 2012, although at the start of Through Danny Phantom, not all of the moderators had tumblr accounts. Event activity on tumblr was moderated by dpsg1 and tanger-catnip.
@Phandom-Rewatch
The official Through Danny Phantom tumblr blog @phandom-rewatch was run by tanger-catnip.
According to the blog's description, it was the:
Tumblr hub for the fandom-wide re-watch of Danny Phantom. from "Mystery Meat" to Phantom Planet. Episodes air every Friday at 7pm and 12 midnight eastern standard time.[16]
The tumblr blog provided announcements before each livestream: what was being streamed, what time it started, and a link to the livestream room. Each of these announcements also included an edit / graphic created by tanger-catnip. In keeping with the nature of the episode, the post announcing the livestream of the Danny Phantom episode The Fright Before Christmas rhymed.[17]
Suggestions for preshow movies could be submitted via the blog's submission feature.
Wordpress
The Through Danny Phantom wordpress was moderated by dashuramod.
With permission, fanart and fanfics created for the event were crossposted to the wordpress blog.
Each entry was tagged with the title, creator, relevant episode title, and Through Danny Phantom tags:

Youtube
While Through Danny Phantom had no official presence or channel on Youtube, co-creator dpsg1 was very active in the Danny Phantom vidding community, and served as the event's liaison there.
Guidelines
The introductory informational post written by sapphireswimming was posted, with minor changes, to multiple sites: to DeviantArt as a journal and on Through-DP's About Us page[2], in the first chapter of the fanfiction collection, and wordpress.
It provided a brief overview of the event, how to watch episodes, "what to do then," links to official event sites, and ideas for fanworks.
What to do then: After we watch it, we can chat about each episode and geek out as a collective unit. X3 We can write thoughts, reviews, theories, favorite bits, and pet peeves, etc. And then we can make gifs or artwork or fanfics or videos –anything!- surrounding that one particular episode per week. Contribute whatever you want. We just want to revive this show and phandom.

Ideas for stuffs: Stories could be blog or journal posts, drabbles, oneshots, character development or inner thoughts for a scene, an AU twist to the episode, a different ending (what should have happened), a parody, writing about a minor detail no one notices, writing a different plot for the same title, writing for a prompt based on that episode, etc.
Categories of art could be making videos, gifs, redesigning the title card, redrawing a screencap, illustrating a scene, doing portraits of the characters from that episode, drawing a cartoon or comic, etc.[19]
Additionally, Through-DP provided the following guidelines for gallery submissions:
So if you have something that fits the group, ie, centers around the show, feel free to get it in the gallery. We accept pictures and gifs, fics, reviews or blogs, and if you make a video on youtube, feel free to enter in the link for us.[20]
Post-Event
After the livestreams ended in June, moderators continued to encourage episode-based discussion and fanworks and made it clear that the DeviantArt gallery and fanfiction.net collection would remain open as long as people wanted to submit their creations.[21]
The fanfiction.net collection was updated with new chapters into July 2013.
As of October 9, 2023, there were still seventy three members of Through-DP.
The ao3 collection was created in 2020. As of October 9, 2023, there are thirty seven fics in it.
Revival
In 2020, there was some revived interest in Through Danny Phantom on tumblr. Sapphireswimming said they were unable to moderate a second version of the event, but were willing to help if anyone else wanted to[22].
In 2021, sarasanddollar hosted a similar but unrelated Danny Phantom rewatch event called DP Rewatch 2021, although it didn't have the same emphasis on creating episode-based fanwork as part of it.
