Ghostbusters is a supernatural comedy franchise that became popular since the premiere of the first Ghostbusters film in 1984.

Canon

The films centers around a group of eccentric New York City parapsychologists who investigate and capture ghosts for a living after they discovered that ghosts were real and were able to neutralize them. They moved into a old firehouse, redid an old ambulance/hearse 1959 Cadillac named "Ecto-1" and went into business.

The film was then followed by a cartoon sequel, The Real Ghostbusters, and in 1989 had a second film released. In the 90s, a sequel or spinoff cartoon series Extreme Ghostbusters with a new group of Ghostbusters taking over under the leadership of Egon. Various video games, role playing games and comic books have been released throughout the years. A third film was released in July 2016, Ghostbusters, after living in development hell for years, this time with a female group cast[1] starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.

Main Characters

Fandom

In Australia, at the Sydney premiere night for "Ghostbusters" in November 1984, fans Ian McLean and Karen Lewis won the "Best Couple" award for turning up as "Peoplebusters" from Rent-a-Ghost. Armed with fly swats, these spooks entertained the crowds in the foyer and posed for many photos with movie patrons. The characters made numerous appearances at fannish events throughout the 1980s, including Bob Johnson's Star Trek Marathons, local and interstate SF media conventions, and even as panellists in the Harpic Productions' game show, CometCon Blankety Blanks (an Astrex Minicon).
