Wordpress is an open sourced software used to create websites. It is often used in context with Wordpress.com a free online platform that hosts blogs.
Fan Use
Fans often used Wordpress.com to create blogs dedicated to their favorite fandoms and as archives for their fanworks. There was some migration of fans over to Wordpress.com after the issues at Tripod and Angelfire, and the erasure of GeoCities. However, it never seemed to gain the fan popularity of other blogging platform Tumblr, perhaps because of its lack of searchable tags, inability of fans to connect socially on the platform and Tumblr's ease of use for creators who were not tech savvy.
