The Paula Wilshe Award recognizes new fan fiction writers in Starsky & Hutch fandom.
The award was originally offered in conjunction with the Huggy Award at Zebracon and then later at the Starsky & Hutch SHarecons.
In 2003, we introduced the Paula Wilshe Award for New Writers in SH. This award honors Paula Wilshe, who passed away on July 22, 2003 and has been greatly missed. Paula loved to encourage new writers in the fandom, so this is one small way of remembering her and celebrating our writers. ....Once a writer wins this award, they are no longer eligible for future Wilshe awards. Any writer who has had Starsky & Hutch fanfic (gen or slash) published for the first time (in a zine or on the internet) (in the preceding five years) is eligible to be nominated. [1]
Controversies
The awards were generally well regarded and without controversy, with the exception of 2009 when the organizers suspected 'ballot stuffing' in the nominee process and took measures to verify the voting.
In May 2010, it was discovered that one of the 2008 winners was guilty of plagiarism, and her award was revoked. [2]
