Issue 9: Excerpts from the Letters

They danced. Sigh. Someone catch me because I'm gonna faint from sheer delight of it all. I thought my sister would have to tie me down when Catherine asked, "Do you dance?" For the first time, I wanted to knock Pascal upside the head for interrupting, but all's fine; Narcissa is safe because of his meddling and we go to see Vincent and Catherine dance anyhow (proof that the last five minutes never let us down).

First of all I want to thank Jeanne and Joyce for their letter at the beginning of the #7 issue. This gentle admonition was well-timed, and I know it brought me back to earth. I have been guilty of complaining about the second season myself and I regret one letter I sent to Ron Koslow after viewing "A Fair and Perfect Knight". I was very upset that they didn't kiss in this episode, and I'm afraid I wrote that letter in the heat of the moment. However, I stand firm on my conviction that this would have been the perfect moment for a first kiss and a golden opportunity was missed. I refer to the scene where Vincent is agonizing over what Catherine and Michael "shared" and he is standing there, his noble head bowed and tears in his eyes. Catherine is telling him he deserves everything and he is shaking his head; he is feeling so vulnerable and unworthy and she DOESN'T kiss him!!?? I really think a gentle, loving kiss would have been in order. He needed kissing SO badly!....

.... I want to congratulate Linda and Ron, and B&B for the Golden Globe nominations. I was SO happy Ron won! No one deserves it more. He gave a wonderful acceptance speech. What a neat guy! That he truly cares about Vincent is evident.

Once Upon a Time... Is Now 10 was published in April 1989 and contains 25 pages.

Issue 10: Excerpts from the Letters

A note about who, or what, Vincent is. We all have our own ideas. It appears that most of us would like to believe he is a compassionate human being with some beastly characteristics. At Space Trek, Ron Perlman stated the HE believes Vincent is "a beast with a lot of humanity." We, the audience, disagreed with that definition, loudly. Thinking about it later, I realized that if Ron changed his PERCEPTION of Vincent, that could change his PORTRAYAL of Vincent, however minutely. We could lose the Vincent we've all come to know and love. I guess what I'm saying is I've agreed to disagree with the man. You go ahead and believe what you like, Ron. As for the rest of us....

The topic of change brings me to B&B's second season. I admit it, I'm in love. The first 10 minutes of "Chamber Music" and all of the next 4 episodes have delighted me no end. But until it was pointed out to me recently, I didn't realize that something was missing. What happened to the tension between the title characters? Isn't that what attracted us to the show in the first place? When did it disappear? Did something we haven't seen yet happen between "A Happy Life" and "Remember Love"? How about letting us in on the secret, oh ye in the main office? Judging by the previews to the January 13 episode (Friday the 13th, my favorite day!), we'll be getting some of that tension back. But is it here to stay?

... that little kiss was so well done. Congratulations to the writers and director and the actors, of course, for slipping it in at just the right moment. It wasn't forced, it wasn't out of context, it just happened. And with no follow-up. Vincent just stands there! Don't you wonder what he's thinking, what he's feeling? There are several times in that episode when no words were spoken but Vincent's or Catherine's expressions were so eloquent.
