Jinkook is a pairing in BTS fandom, consisting of Jin (Kim Seokjin) and Jungkook (Jeon Jungkook).
Name
In a 2015 interview with Japanese magazine Hanryupia, Jungkook said that the name of the pairing of him and Jin was "Jinkook", at which Jin laughed, calling it "rubbish", and said their unit name was "generation difference", a reference to their age gap of 5 years which makes them the eldest (Jin) and the youngest (Jungkook) in BTS.[1]
The caption of a selfie of them together tweeted by BTS in June 2016 said "SeokKook".[2]
Canon
Jin and Jungkook signed with Big Hit Entertainment on the same day (June 4, 2011[3]), but Jin entered the company one or two days earlier than Jungkook.[4] They met when the junior idol trainees visited the senior trainees to see how they practiced. While Jin was observing the seniors, Jungkook came in the room: Jin's first impression of him was that "this kid is cute, with his perfectly round, googly eyes", while Jungkook thought "oh, handsome people like this really exist in the world" when he saw Jin.[1] Their first interaction, as recalled by Jin, was:
I went to the practice room one day and saw a kid with Bambi eyes sitting all curled up. When I asked "... Who are you?" he stood up and said "Ah! My name is Jeon Jungkook!" Even when I told him he could sit down he would say "No! I'm fine!"[5]
At first, their relationship was affected by their age difference, but over time they grew comfortable with each other, becoming like peer classmates, going out to play, eat, and work out together, to the point that sometimes Jungkook felt Jin was younger than him. When they had singing lessons outside of the company, they used to eat together after the lessons everyday and then they went back to the dormitory together.[1] Jungkook would also join Jin and Jin's parents at the restaurant several times during their trainee days.[6] Their habit of working out together continued at least until March 2014.[7]
After "becoming an adult and growing muscles", Jungkook allegedly stopped being obedient and listening to Jin.[8] He would often sleep in Jin's bed when he was absent and send bed selfies from it.[9][10]
Bond and interactions
Jin and Jungkook are known amongst fans for their playful banter and bickering,[11] which is attested to by BTS themselves. In a 2020 Esquire interview they recounted:
Suga jumps in, sharing that Jimin and V fight the most among the group. V replies, "We haven't fought in three years!" They tell me this distinction now belongs to Jin and Jung Kook, the oldest and youngest members. "It all starts as a joke, but then it gets serious," Jimin says. Jin agrees and recounts what their arguments sound like. "Why did you hit me so hard?" he says, before mimicking Jung Kook's response: "I didn't hit you that hard." And then they start hitting each other. But not that hard.[12]
About their continuous bickering, RM pointed out that "Even though they're like that, those two are really close. They basically can't live without each other";[13] V once said that "the youngest and the oldest have that bond".[14] Jinkook chose each other as one of the things they'd take to a deserted island in multiple occasions,[15][16][17] and both said the other was "my everything".[18] During an interview for Idols' True Color Radio on 14 June 2014, Jin stated that "all of the members are good, but I like Jungkook the most", at which Jimin added that "I often help Jungkook, yet Jungkook likes Jin hyung".[19] In a 2013 interview with K-Poppin', Jungkook chose Jin as the BTS member he'd date if he were a girl.[20] Talking about what about Jin made his heart skip, Jungkook said: "Jin hyung has broad shoulders and is good looking. [...] He sometimes makes mistakes on stage and I send him a sign. That makes my heart skip in a sense".[21]
In Jin's words, their relationship has "no boundaries", meaning that Jungkook "is not informal, but he does hit me" despite being younger; Jungkook's justification was that "he just looks so soft and nice to hit".[22] Later on, Jin stated that he liked to tease Jungkook the most because he played along with his jokes, something Jin also did in turn with Jungkook's jokes.[23] Jin also said he was "super happy" when Jungkook massaged his shoulders.[24] Aside from play-fighting, when they're just the two of them together they also have sincere conversations, with Jin usually giving advice to Jungkook.[25]

According to long-time Jinkook fans on Twitter, their ship grew esponentially after the infamous "July 2nd Selcas" posted by Seokjin on July 2, 2020. Captioned "Jungkookie interrupting while I take selfies and Seokjinnie uploading them as they are", the shots are selfies of Seokjin while a shirtless Jungkook pins him to the wall.
In May 2022 Jinkook became the 10th most popular BTS ship on AO3, featured in 7,000 works.[26]
