Category talk:Mixed Media
I don't understand the new note. So the content is supposed to change? Right now it seems to contain articles for multimedia fanworks themselves, not "articles about the creation of multimedia fanworks". That sounds like a how-to category.--RatCreature 22:36, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
- No, it's not supposed to change. I removed the "creation of" line. I only added a note in case it was confused with the Multimedia Zines category, but I seem to have made it more confusing....--æthel 23:43, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
- So are only individual works supposed to go here, or also forms that are inherently multimedia, such as Fic Trailers or communities dedicated to this such as Artword?--RatCreature 06:20, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
Rename to "Mixed media fanworks"
The current category name is vague and ambiguous; 'multimedia', as a term, is typically thought of in terms of corporate franchises and intellectual properties, e.g. "multimedia franchise". Mixed media, by contrast, is a much more common term to refer to art that employs multiple mediums and materials, which this category is referring to; thus, "mixed media fanworks" is a much more clear term. - I disagree, pages in multimedia shouldn't be about mixed media, mixed media in terms of artwork means mixing mediums together like collage, but multimedia means something that contains fanworks from different fandoms, but they aren't mixed together like a collage, they are placed side by side, for example The Celestial Toybox is a multimedia zine that contains fic and art from several fandoms, but they aren't mixed together into one story they are just bound up together in one volume -- Kingstoken (talk) 17:03, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
- Politely, your description of the category does not match up with the category's own description:
This category contains articles on the creation, distribution, and enjoyment of fanworks that use multiple media (e.g. text, art, sound, etc). Communities, challenges, awards, conventions, etc. devoted to multimedia fanworks should be included here, in addition to individual fanworks.
Articles on multifandom topics should not be categorized here. See Category:Multimedia Zines, Category:Multifandom Archives, Category:Multifandom Awards, Category:Multifandom Challenges, Category:Multifandom Podcasts, Category:Multifandom Vids, or Category:Media Fandom.
- In my opinion, this mixup further indicates a need to rename. Pinky G Rocket (talk) 17:26, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah, looking at Aethel's history of edits to the category, it was clearly intended for stuff that used a combination of text/visual/audio/etc, not multiple fandoms. Also, looking at the pages currently sorted in the category, well it's a bit of a mess (Uma Musume probably shouldn't be in here?) but almost all of them are single-fandom. We have a lot of categories for things in a specific medium with multiple fandoms already (as seen in the description) -- I don't think we have one for "any medium, multiple fandoms" but we could make a parent category? Seems like a different issue than what to call this category, though.
- Personally, I'm in favor of Pinky G Rocket's proposed change. -- Quaelegit (talk) 00:45, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
- It looks like Uma Musume and Startoons (multifandom cartoon pro book) were both recently added to this category; I just booted them out. I think the rest of the pages are relevant to "multimedia" or "mixed media".--aethel (talk) 01:29, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
Should specific multimedia fanworks go in this category?
Because if so, there's a bunch of other fanfics I could add, like Q.A.B.. -- Quaelegit (talk) 01:03, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
