Q.A.B. is a Boku no Hero Academia multimedia fanfic by jihnari. Set in an AU in which Midoriya Izuku neither gets a quirk nor attends UA Highschool, but does start posting his quirk analyses online (hence the fic title, which is short for "Quirk Analysis Blog"). The story follows Midoriya and many other BNHA characters as the blog surges in popularity and the community around it begins to influence the world in surprising ways.

While popular for its story, Q.A.B. is particularly notable for its elaborate CSS styling -- mimicking the layout of Twitter, Discord, LINE, and many other communications platforms -- as well as for the authors notes detailing jihnari's journey learning HTML and fighting with AO3's style parser.

Summary

One month after @hawks_unofficial's initial viral post, the blog titled "Quirk Analysis Blog for the Future", otherwise known as "Q. A. B.", has gone from an average of 10 views per post to an average of 20,000 views per post.

Midoriya Izuku does not know how to view the impressions analysis for his suddenly popular blog, and only notices that sometimes, people actually comment on his posts now. He does not google himself or his moniker and thus does not see the rise in online articles and speculation.

He is unaware that the "kyuu-ei-bee" he begins to hear about in passing refers to his own blog. He does not have a Twitter account.

At the time, Midoriya Izuku is 15 years old.

Izuku (accidentally) starts a cult.

Fan Reactions

The formatting is fit for the gods to read. The writing is fit for the gods to read. This is godly TO read. And anyone who passes up this fic has passed up something godly and therefore is a sinner in my eyes. This is beautifully written. Also, the author endnotes have made me both cackle and feel so, so sorry for this author. The’ve been through it. Learning HTML solely for making this fic as stunning as it is. Like, seriously, that is so inspiring and amazing. Kudos to this author who is both a brilliant writer, and a dedicated one at that. Someone get this author a standing ovation.

A genuinely awesome, creative use of AO3’s creator skin feature. Extremely ambitious and well executed story. I’ve had so much fun with this. I’m so glad it exists.

Discord Server

Jihnari created a discord server for fans of the fic. The invite was hidden in the text of the story. The server attracted an active userbase of several hundred fans, and held occasional events such as a Bakugou-themed wump exchange.

The server was deleted on 11 November 2023, the day after Chapter 32 of q.a.b. (cont) was posted, in which the in-story server was also deleted.
