Archie is the leader of Team Aqua from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. Team Aqua is the second/third of many evil teams in the Pokémon series who aim to generally be evil, debuting the same time as Team Magma and after Team Rocket. In Team Aqua's case, it's an ecological terrorist organization who wants to awaken Kyogre and flood the world. He also makes appearances in Pokémon Masters, PokéAni, Pokéspe and Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, always as a villainous character. He is a fan favorite, though not too many fanworks exist which primarily focus on him.

The Pokémon he is most associated with are Sharpedo, Mightyena and Kyogre. Archie is not to be confused with Archer, another villainous Pokemon character who's named similarly.

Popular Tropes & Fanon

In fanart, it's common for the designs of Ruby & Sapphire's Archie and Maxie to be considered separate characters from their redesigns featured in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Archie can also be considered a Tumblr Sexyman[2].

Archie and Maxie Used to be on the Same Team?

In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, a Team Magma Grunt says that Archie and Maxie used to be on the same team. Fans have theorized this could've been the case as far back as 2002, when RSE first released, but this might've meant the idea was canon. HardenShipping fans liked the conformation, and it's a frequently used trope in fanworks for that pairing that the two had a falling out.

However, given how this was from a Team Magma Grunt, it could be Team Magma propaganda... It's unconfirmed.
