Zombies are a type of reanimated undead human monster that originates in Haitian folklore and beliefs. Nominally, they come from the Afro-Caribbean religion of Vodou or Vodun, but they're not actually a part of the mainstream organized religion (nor do "real" zombies resemble movie zombies). The standard form of the monster known to English-speaking audiences comes from Night of the Living Dead.
