Mulan is an animated film created by Disney in 1998, and was followed up with a direct-to-video sequel in 2005 and a liveaction movie, projected to be released in 2020.

Canon

The story of "Mulan" was based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, a respected and honorable warrior. The Disney adaptation follows the story of a young woman of marriageable age as she disguises herself as a man in order to take her ailing father's place in the army.[1]

Other Canons/Transformative Works

As Mulan was not invented by Disney but adapted from the Chinese legend, there are several other adaptations of Mulan. For instance, 花木兰 (English title: Mulan: Rise of a Warrior), which was released in 2009.
