Viktor/Hermione is a Harry Potter pairing involving Hermione Granger and Viktor Krum.
Canon Relationship
Hermione first sees Viktor Krum at the Quidditch World Cup at the beginning of Goblet of Fire, when Krum is playing in the match as the Seeker for the Bulgarian team.
When Viktor arrives at Hogwarts as part of Durmstrang's Triwizard Tournament delegation, Hermione is initially scornful of all the female attention he receives, commenting that his admirers "only like him because he's famous," as Krum is "not even good-looking."[1] It is later revealed that Hermione had caught Viktor's eye, and that he had being coming to the Hogwarts library every day to try to talk to her. The two attend the Yule Ball together, much to everyone's surprise.
During the second task of the Triwizard Tournament, Hermione is chosen as the person whom Viktor would "sorely miss" (later described as the thing he would miss most[2]). After the second task, Viktor tells Hermione that he has "never felt this way about any other girl" and invites her to visit him in Bulgaria the following summer. This conversation is later published and embellished in a story by Rita Skeeter, who also invents rumours about Harry and Hermione being romantically involved.[3]
It appears that Hermione does not take Viktor up on the offer to visit him in Bulgaria, as she spends the most of the subsequent summer with the Weasleys and the rest of the Order of the Phoenix at Grimmauld Place. However, she and Viktor remain "pen-pals" (according to Hermione) for at least the following year.[4]
Hermione and Viktor see each other again at Bill and Fleur's wedding in Deathly Hallows. Viktor compliments Hermione on her appearance and Hermione is "pleasurably flustered" to see him. However, Viktor seems unsurprised to learn that Hermione and Ron may be "together now," though he later expresses his annoyance that "all the good-looking girls are taken."[5]
In the Films
Although the Goblet of Fire film more or less follows the events of the book, the Viktor/Hermione relationship is downplayed. For example, in a movie-only conversation with Harry after the Yule Ball, Hermione heavily implies that she is not really interested in Viktor:
- "Actually, we don't really talk at all. Viktor's more of a physical being. [laughs] I just mean he's not particularly loquacious. Mostly he watches me study. It's a bit annoying actually."[6]
This goes against what is presented in the book. Hermione is Krum's hostage for the Second Task as in the book, but the significance of this is not mentioned and the conversation between the two after the task and the resulting Skeeter article are not included in the film. The only other interaction between the two is at the end of the film, when Krum is leaving and asks Hermione to write to him.
Footage of Krum and Hermione at Bill and Fleur's wedding was filmed for Deathly Hallows - Part 1, but was cut from the final version of the film.[7]

Common Topics of Discussion & Fanworks
- The extent and nature of their canon relationship, particularly during Goblet of Fire, is a matter of debate. The two evidently share enough private conversations for Viktor to assert that Hermione talks about Harry "very often," and Ginny Weasley later states that the two "snogged." Common fanon is that the two mutually decided not to pursue a long-distance relationship, but kept in touch as friends. Most fans agree that Krum was the more invested of the two in the idea of a romantic relationship.
- Seen as merely an obstacle for Ron/Hermione (and evidence that Ron/Hermione would happen). Viktor appears frequently in Ron/Hermione fanworks as a source of conflict, from simple jealousy to making Viktor a Death Eater himself or an unwilling lure used by the Death Eaters to try to kidnap Hermione.
- Viktor/Hermione as a better match than Ron/Hermione: Viktor is more mature/gentlemanly, and more "deserving" of Hermione
- Overcoming prejudice, particularly the blood prejudice of Karkaroff, Durmstrang, and the wizarding public
- Age Difference, especially in regard to sexual experience

- ^ The official description of the second task via the egg clue described what would be taken as "what you'll sorely miss" (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 25, "The Egg and the Eye"), though the narrative later states that "people had been teasing [Hermione]...about being the thing that Viktor Krum would most miss" (Chapter 27, "Padfoot Returns"; emphasis added). Dobby also interpreted the task as involving "the thing [the champion] will miss most" (Chapter 26, "The Second Task"). Fanon has run with the idea that Hermione was the person Krum would miss most of all, though some argue that it is unrealistic that Krum would most miss someone he had known for only a few months (over, e.g., his parents, who came to see him participate in the third task). There is also the question of who decided who would be taken, and how they would know whom each champion would most miss.
