The Itty Bitty Cyke and Logan Archive was a large Cyclops and Wolverine archive during the height of the X-Men fandom, despite what the name suggests. It began as part of the Itty Bitty Archives, as the Itty Bitty Cyke Archive and the Itty Bitty Logan Archive, and were created by Kaylee to collect fic about her favourite character, Wolverine, and the ill-treated (at the time) Cyclops.
From the introduction page:
When Kaylee started her Cyclops and Wolverine archives, she searched for stories that treated them as people, and brought their human aspects out - in part to try and convince people that they had a very human side. Since then, their popularity has grown as characters immensely, which means there's more fic than ever.
The archives were announced on the Alt.comic.fan-fiction usegroup on October 3, 1998[2], with the creation of the Itty Bitty Logan Archive, the Itty Bitty Cyke Archive and the Itty Bitty X-Men Archive. QueenB took over the Itty Bitty Archives from Kaylee in 2003 and the Logan and Cyke archives were combined to create the Itty Bitty Cyke and Logan Archive. Later Lise and Alicia McKenzie took on the archive and combined it with Alternate Timelines and Felicitas to create Comicfic.Net.
Contents
- Complete listing of Scott stories, alphabetized by title
- Complete listing of Logan stories, alphabetized by title
- The Summerlands - memorial to Scott Summers, who died in UXM #379. (Of course, it wasn't permanent.)
Contrary to the impression given by the name of the archive, not all stories were Scott/Logan slash, as the archive had begun as two separate archives, one for each character. In Kaylee's own words, each section was dedicated to the more original and creative fanfiction about each character:
LoganHe's a man of conflict, inner and outer. He's immensely strong-willed and yet can't control himself. He's caring and compassionate and rude and cruel. He's loyal to a large degree, yet takes off without notice and leaves the people who count on him without his support.
He's an alcoholic who can't get drunk.
Logan's been a spy, a soldier, an animal, a man, a martial artist, and far more. He's a lover and a fighter. He's risked his heart more than once just to have it torn out, yet still keeps chugging on. And these are just a handful of the things I find so interesting about him.
So here you'll find the Logan fan-fiction that appeals to me. He may be the main character, or he may be in a supporting role that blows me away. Stories might range from showing him in a favorable light to showing him as an alcoholic redneck SOB. There're more than enough aspects of the man to support a wide range of fan-fiction, and I'll be looking for the more original and creative stories featuring him.
ScottWhy don't people see how nifty Scott Summers is?
This is the guy who was a loner as a kid. Who fought for the underdog even when the underdog turned around and bit him. Who acted while other people sat on their duffs and watched tragedy unfold. This is the guy for whom emotions are "dangerous things" that must be locked down inside. Who's been hurt very deeply. Who had to struggle to learn about trust and love. And who still managed to come out fighting on the side of the angels.
This is the guy who's found the strength to lead a bunch of strong-willed, rebellious people into situations that might get himself or any of them killed, all for the sake of a Dream that might never come to pass. He risks himself for others constantly, never asking for anything in return. And this is the guy who deals daily with the knowledge that he can kill with a look...and that he'll forever have to see the world through rose-colored glasses to prevent that.
I'll be searching for stories that treat him as a human, rather than a cardboard cutout. This little corner of the web is a haven for Scott. Let's see if we can't change some opinions about the boy, eh? ;-)
The SummerlandsThe term "fiction" or the latin 'fictio' denotes a "thing made," a "falsehood," or a "fable." But sometimes these "lies" we tell for entertainment purposes, these "stories" if you will, have meaning so univeral and heros so true, we cannot help but accept them into our own imaginations and make them a part of ourselves. Scott Summers aka Cyclops of the X-Men was one of these fictions, these heros. His recent "passing" inspired the following stories and here, several writers pay homage to a character that has captured their imaginations in individual ways.
So enjoy and keep a candle lit somewhere in your heart for Scott Summers.
