Template talk:Distinguish
Notices Category
Just browsing through our Notices category and came across this template - do we use it for anything? It looks like an incomplete spoiler warning template, but we already have one of those. It also doesn't appear to be transcluded anywhere. --enchantedsleeper (talk) 22:39, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
- I've not used that ever. --MPH (talk) 22:48, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
- There are a handful of pages that use this template as a "you may be looking for [similarly named page]" notice. But I much prefer simple text hatnotes. I think a template like this is too obtrusive and looks to me like a temporary needs-editing flag versus something permanent and integrated. --sparc 03:50, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
- Oh I agree. Those notices look more like a warning than a signpost to the page you may be looking for. Maybe its just the black text on yellow background, but I'd be in favour of removing them. And if that's the only use of this template, I don't think we need this template. --Auntags (talk) 21:23, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
Following discussion on Discord (but making similar points to the above), I changed the template to resemble Template: Other uses in formatting. This makes the two templates very similar. However, I would prefer to keep both of them because I think this fits better for pages with confusingly-similar-but-not-identical names, like when we have both "A/B" and "A&B" named pages for the romantic and platonic relationship between two characters. -- Quaelegit (talk) 10:28, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
coding problem?
There might be a problem with this template or how it interacts with other templates. When extra spacing was previously removed from this template, it caused some pages to become entirely indented if there was no carriage return between the hatnote and the infobox template. I undid the spacing adjustment and it seemed to fix the problem, but now I see the problem that was fixed by the spacing removal--sometimes there's an extra carriage return between the hatnote and the rest of the page, but it's not consistent. This is fine: 31 Days. This isn't: The Josh Hutcherson Edit.--aethel (talk) 22:20, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
- I noticed this problem, I fixed it by putting space between this template and the page's article to avoid indentation, or I used other devices -- Ellakbhesse (talk) 23:28, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
