Hey, the more I look at this, the more I think that the Fan History wiki needs to be mentioned, and yes, warned about. Someone who plays here a little and has fun, then runs across fanhistory would be inclined to help out a little there, too -- and deserves a little warning.--Sherrold 16:59, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

You're probably right. It may be that no one wants to make the page because no one wants to get embroiled in the saga. My inclination is to mention FHW briefly on this general wiki page, and to put the bulk of the material about that project on its own page. There's a del.icio.us tag for fanhistory exposé which might prove useful, though most of the material it collects is predictably biased. Kass 17:44, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
FWIW, there is already an entry for Laura Hale that briefly talks about the FH wiki and other stuff. So I think more about FH could go there also, rather than an extra entry.--Ratcreature 17:49, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
That sounds like a good approach. The more I think about it, the more I like it. --Msilverstar 18:59, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

fandom? pan-fandom?

Is anime really pan-fandom? Sure, there are multiple anime fandoms, but it isn't open for all fandoms in scope. Wouldn't all anime be merely a multifandom wiki? Also I wonder whether the Feminist SF wiki counts as fandom or as panfandom wiki? I mean, does SF count as a single fandom?--Ratcreature 23:06, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Well, we could have separate sections for multi-fandom and pan-fandom wikis, or you could rename that header "Multi-fandom and Pan-fandom wikis." I don't really have a preference. As for the Feminist SF wiki, I... guess that would be multi-fandom? -- Liviapenn 23:08, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Fandom-specific

I'm not sure if I understand the idea of this list--wouldn't wikis about a particular work be best covered on he relevant Fandom by Source page, as a subsection or in external links or what-have-you? -- Kdcat 00:11, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Most of these are on the fandom pages already, at least the ones I added. I assumed the idea behind the compilation on this page was to show how widespread wikis are in fandom, which fandoms have them, which don't and such in an overview, and maybe whether there are patterns or not.--Ratcreature 00:31, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Category?

Is there some principled reason why there's no Category:Wikis (pl. or sg.) yet? There seem to be a number of articles on specific wikis, and they're certainly a distinctive type of website. --Greer Watson (talk) 19:11, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

No principled reason. It was an oversight. I started a template to go with the category: Template:Wiki.--æþel (talk) 22:30, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Yummy! --Greer Watson (talk) 22:55, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Is it a WIP? When do we get to use it? --Greer Watson (talk) 10:30, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
I posted a notice to the dreamwidth community, so I guess if someone has a strong opinion, we'll hear about it shortly. But otherwise, I say go ahead and use it.--æþel (talk) 00:13, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
I notice the box manifests a header for "type", but there's no place to put one in when filling the box out. Also, I'm not sure what "type" means in the context of a wiki. --Greer Watson (talk) 00:37, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
Anyway, you can see the box in action on the Forever Knight Wiki article. --Greer Watson (talk) 00:40, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
That type was left over from the website template. The type is wiki, so I took it out.--æþel (talk) 00:50, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

Everything2?

Should it get a mention on this page? We don't really delve into wiki history and I don't remember it well enough to do it myself, but it seems really big and it's still around and I think there's some fannish stuff on it. Maybe I'll see if I can dig up someone else's history explainer and link it in the Further Reading section i just made. -- Quaelegit (talk) 02:07, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
