I came into fandom on the trail of the killers of my father, and for reasons which don't bear exploration at this juncture, have remained? Er -- okay, not exactly, let me try that again. :-)
I've been a part of media fandom since 1999, when Sandy Justine showed me her Sentinel stories alongside my first episodes of the show. (The first one I saw was "Warriors." Indians in Tevas! ::love::) I wrote a few pieces of fanpoetry (Sentinel sonnets) and then took the plunge into writing fanfiction.
Sanj was totally my enabler -- she showed me my first vids (assorted Media Cannibals favorites, plus "I'm Only Happy When It Rains" -- I was a feral X-Files fan well before I knew about fandom.) Anyway. I was a Sentinel mono-fan for years. Once upon a time I was active on FCA-L and Prospect-L (remember mailing lists?), and I also belonged to TLAD and Senad (briefly) back in the day.
From there, I moved into due South fandom; the buddy dynamic between Fraser and Ray (both Rays) reminded me of what I'd loved in Sentinel. My other biggest fandom over the years has been Stargate: Atlantis, though I've also had intense flings with Harry Potter, House, MD, Firefly, Veronica Mars, Friday Night Lights, and Lost. Also an assortment of Yuletide fandoms.
I joined LiveJournal in 2002, and have been a part of lj-based fandom ever since. I think that was the year after I started going to Escapade. These days I'm also a big fan of Vividcon and Muskrat Jamboree. In 2009 I got an account at Dreamwidth and currently consider that my primary journal, though am still fairly active on both dw and lj.
I started vidding in 2008, with tremendous help and encouragement from a lot of people. I still feel like my learning curve is quite steep, but I love vidding like crazy and I'm so grateful for my friends who audience and beta and generally encourage my vidding! (While I'm at it: I'm also grateful for everyone who's beta-read my fic over the years too. Y'all are awesome.) So far I've released vids in SGA, Lost, and Friday Night Lights -- plus a festivid in an a fandom I can't mention yet!
