Talk:TPTB's Involvement with Fandom
"Source Text Creators" is a bit awkward. How about Creators' Involvement and Interference? --æþel 16:15, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I know it sounds klunky, but I wanted to differentiate between the "creators of canon" and "fans as creators". "Creators' Involvement and Interference" doesn't make that distinction. --Mrs. Potato Head 16:29, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
- How about TPTB's Involvement and Interference? --Doro 16:56, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
- I like it! [edited TPTBs' Involvement and Interference though?] --Mrs. Potato Head 16:56, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
- It is the plural. Plus TPTBs' looks a bit wacky. --æþel 21:44, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
- I'm going with Doro's first recommendation. --Mrs. Potato Head 21:55, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
major overlap with Professional Author Fanfic Policies
This page and Professional Author Fanfic Policies cover many of the same issues, and probably should be de-duplicated --msilverstar 05:45, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
- So, I propose a rename to TPTB Fanwork Policies --msilverstar 03:01, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- The Pros Author fan fic policy is mainly a list of the authors (writers) and how they respond to fanwork. This page is much broader and covers all aspects of both involvement with fandom as well as response to fanworks. So I don't agree with merging. What we need on this page is more analysis and compare and contrast in fandom sections (ex: Star Trek fandom, Blake's 7 fandom, writer x fandom etc). Still pondering the rename as the response from TPTB can go beyond how they react fanworks to how they interact with fans.--MeeDee 06:12, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- Well, all the professional author sections on this page should link to their entries on the other one, because it's hard enough to keep one up to date (Anne Rice changed her mind, who would'a guessed?). --msilverstar 06:16, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

page rename
I'd like to rename this page TPTB's Involvement with Fandom, move individual fandoms to subpages (ones with a lot to their own, ones with less to "Other"), and link up related topics. Thoughts? --MPH (talk) 16:31, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
New Page for the Internet
I think the subject of TPTB and involvement with fandom because of the internet is a complicated subject that should have its own page. Any opinions on what would be a good title for the page? Maybe "TPTB and the Internet," "TPTB and Internet Fandom," or "TPTB and Social Media." — caes (talk) 00:33, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- I'll go with "TPTB and Internet Fandom" if so. --KTJ (talk) 01:04, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- I think both titles are good, but I'm leaning more towards "TPTB and Social Media" --Kingstoken (talk) 01:13, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- 👍 --msilverstar (talk) 01:17, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
TPTB and Social Media now exists. --caes (talk) 20:22, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
Details wanted
This has been nominated for a Featured Article but several people think it falls a bit short. Among the details I'd like to see added:
- Talk about the difference between creator(s)/rights-holder involvement, and actor involvement. Possibly a subsection on actors who are happily involved in their fandoms.
- Mention of sponsored contests/events and probably a link to FanLib
- Creators who are actively involved with fandom-in-general but not specifically their fandoms: Neil Gaiman, Seanan McGuire, etc.
- Fan Service as a related concept (it's in the info box, but IMHO is closer related than just "this term is also relevant")
- Anti-Fan Service, if that's the term? Sherlock (BBC) and SPN showrunners going out of their way to mock fandom
- Info about or link to an article about shutdowns of fannish spaces
- TPTB presence at conventions, licensed items (books, figurines)
- Fannish spinoffs/translations being tolerated until the official version comes out
